If control is giving you trouble, you've always got options like Ranger's Guile or Alpha Authority to give hexproof, or hexproof creatures like Gladecover Scout or Witchstalker . Mistcutter Hydra is fun too along with Reaper of the Wilds .

I'd suggest moving Vraska mainboard to replace Drown in Filth I get the synergy with your deck, but it's a pretty meh card. Vraska the Unseen would get you some late game potency.

Golgari's one of my favorite color combos, so I'll give you props for that. +1

Is 4x Varolz really necessary? You could use Deathrite Shaman s too

I made nearly this exact deck (Steamtroller), but morphed it into a Varolz/scavenge deck into a Jarad/dredge deck (Jarad's Yard).

I'm not sure why Drown in Filth is in here (especially as a sideboard item)? You'll get much more use out of mainboarding a couple Golgari Charm , and sideboarding in a couple Reaper of the Wilds for control and aggro matchups.

I won't lie thewyzman, Drown in Filth was mainly in there for Boros Reckoner . It may not have been perfect but it normally worked when I needed it to. As for Reaper of the Wilds I agree she would be good in here but sadly I don't have any at the moment, I will be on the look out though. Thanks for the feed back. :)

Drown in Filth is okay here cuz you have Grisly Salvage and Deadbridge Chant . If you ever want more dredge, Rot Farm Skeleton is really fun, and a great compliment to the deck since he dredges and reanimates, and you and can scavenge efficiently through Varolz if needed. Abrupt Decay and Putrefy (or even side in some Doom Blade ) can handle Reckoner.

You might even toss in a couple Golgari Guildgate cuz we know those Lotleth's can hog your swamps. I'm not saying play them early, but they do give you a little flexibility in the mid range where this deck comes into its own.

I gave you a +1 because I just love counter decks, especially Simic and/or anything with Corpsejack Menace (BUG decks for the win!), but am just not getting more into Golgari decks just like this one.

Good luck man make a monster BUG and stomp some decks. :P And thanks for the advice.

I've made quite a few BUG decks, like Swampy BUG, but they just don't do as well as they should. They're kinda slow, typically, but dominate when they play right.

Most UG I have seen have the same problem, I rather like simic but they are hard to play right in my opinion. To bad they could be insane with the right cards. :)

I made this deck too as well. you should put Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord. this guy saved my butt a couple a times. you could beef up that troll swing, then fling him with jarad. or got a bunch a land you don't need, and need to put down those last few life your enemy has. feed jarad to the troll sac lands and repeat. then swing to kill.

Wont lie Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord is a fun card, but I only have one. Not to mention at my local fnm he never survived long. He was originally in there, but he was barely drawn and played, sadly. I thought about adding him back in several times, but oh well. :)

That could be fun, and could, make that would be effective, but it would be late game at best, and sadly because of local FNM doesn't normally go past turn six or seven (excluding the control decks) so if I did she would be sideboard. Not to mention I don't have her. :( Good recommendation, just not for me sorry. :)

Primeval Bounty will save you late game in almost any match up!

I won't lie I wanted to add Primeval Bounty and I would have if I had any. Till then sadly I can not.

Considering how u have very little to actually scavenge, I would replace Varolz, the Scar-Striped with Scavenging Ooze

January 7, 2014 2:41 p.m.

Venom4ya says... #16

I won't lie, I ran Scavenging Ooze for a while but it just didn't go well with my play style. That plus his cost make him unappealing to me.

Damn, I say that to much..... XD

January 8, 2014 5:28 p.m.

What about taking all your instants down to 3x and adding 3x Kalonian Tusker ? He's a solid two drop, and with Varolz out, you'd have good scavenge with him. Feed him to the troll, and then scavenge for 3?

January 18, 2014 8:30 p.m.

Venom4ya says... #20

I never thought of adding him. I will test him out on a few games and see how he does. :)

January 19, 2014 12:47 p.m.

thewyzman says... #21

With Varolz, the Scar-Striped being Legendary, you don't need 4 copies. You could stick a couple Kalonian Tusker as mentioned above, or drop in a couple Deadbridge Goliath for extra scavenge, a Reaper of the Wilds for a beasty wall, or I would most recommend at least a pair of Golgari Charm for weenies (getting a huge boost next set), enchantments (already strong), and regenerates (through everything from combat to board wipes a-la Supreme Verdict )

+1 I really like it, it's a great example of a basic but effective Golgari deck with the hard beats. Just made a B/G midrange deck myself, tell me what you think- The Dark Wood

thewyzman says... #23

I like this deck because it's casual, loaded with synergy, and I have a crushes on Corpsejack Menace and Lotleth Troll with Slitherhead . The only thing missing from the love-fest is Kalonian Hydra . I just wish CJM and SH had a place in competitive. I don't remember if I gave this a +1 yet, so I'll just give it one (or another).

I don't think Deadbridge Chant fits well into this deck. If you're going for the self milling, I think Commune with the Gods or Drown in Filth would make for a better option, as it lets you filter cards and keep hand advantage, while still feeding your grave a bit. With 20 creatures, all of which are smaller than a 4/4 plus you're exiling them for scavenge, it makes Chant a bit of a weak card in this set up.
