The land card they're talking about is Reliquary Tower, I use it all the time. And if they try pulling that junk on you... Jace's Archivist will change their minds

Reliquary Tower isn't terribly common in Modern, so I don't know if it's too much of a concern. Some Gitaxian Probe might not be a bad idea to thin the deck and get you to your combos faster. Possibly Serum Visions, not that you really need the draw, but it's probably the best card in modern for digging to get the cards you need. I like what you're doing here.

Thank you. And I'm not sure what I'd replace if I put those cards in... The deck is in a fragile state right now; it works the way it is, and it's really easy to mess it up by changing one or two cards. Do you know of anything I could safely replace?

Well, my first thought is Birds of Paradise, because they aren't benefiting from Heartbeat of Spring, and you have to cast them with a green mana in order to get blue from them (and you are running more islands than forests here).
Removing them would require a bit more mana fixing in the way of lands. I don't know what your budget for the deck is, but Flooded Grove would be sick with Heartbeat of Spring, letting you potentially tap for 9 mana on turn 4. I realize, though, that this would add a good $80 to the price of your deck, and part of its appeal is that it relatively budget-friendly.
Just my thoughts. You have actually played with the deck. Are the birds really helping you that much?

They let me use Heartbeat of Spring a turn earlier than usual. It makes it instead of turn1, land, turn2, land, turn3, land, Heartbeat of Spring, it's turn1, land, birds, turn2 Heartbeat. The main appeal of the card was originally so that I'd have something to play on turn 1. So I may try replacing it with Serum Visions and see if it still functions, I guess.

But I'm doing that tomorrow. I have Thanksgiving to get to right now.

On the Birds of Paradise question, you could try Arbor Elf instead, which would get the benefit of Heartbeat of Spring but would only be able to produce blue mana if you have a Breeding Pool on the field.

Yeah. I have thought about running Arbor Elf instead. I've also considered running Overgrowth with it. I probably won't be able to fit both, though. I'll try the idea and see if it works as well.

i think you should side 4 Witchbane Orb or some other form of rdw hat because you fuel their deck so much it might kill you

I already have 3 sideboarded. Are you saying I should go to 4? And thanks. I'll consider that Academy Ruins thing.
December 4, 2014 2:03 p.m.
yes i was. I was just wondering why the other spells in the side? Gitaxian Probe isn't much of a side card and Defend the Hearth is so.. replaceable. There's a reason no one runs it sideboard
December 4, 2014 2:43 p.m.
you also might want to consider something along the lines of Reliquary Tower or Venser's Journal so that your Consecrated Sphinx + Forced Fruition combo doesn't go to waste

The Gitaxian Probe is I guess for whenever you need to take a card out and can't think of anything to replace, since it basically almost thins the deck down a bit. The Defend the Hearth was kind of an I can't think of anything better right this second type of thing. Plus, it was right after I got killed by a fast creature aggro deck, so I thought I should side in more prevents just for that. I've never been good at sideboarding. What do you think I should sideboard, aside from the Witchbane Orb?

Oh, no. I've playtested the deck a lot. I've never been in a situation where discarding down to seven has been a problem.

It really depends on your meta (the decks you normally face). If your face creature heavy decks, i would suggest Polymorphist's Jest. You might take some damage, but at least it's not a ton unless they're playing tokens. other good removal include Creeping Corrosion and Back to Nature if you play against aura/ constellation or affinity commonly. Draw mechanics are never really sideboard cards. i would suggest moving several to main and maybe taking out 1-2 Vision Skeins, 1-2 Consecrated Sphinx, and/or 1 Mindslaver. other good draw spells in the format include Sleight of Hand and Taigam's Scheming

A few suggestions for ya.
Azure Mage: All that mana and no sinks? Just seems wasteful.
Spellbook or Venser's Journal: You need your opponents to discard. Why should you feel their sorrow?
Jace's Archivist: To really start chewing through everyone's library once Spellbook has twenty or so cards in your hand.
Profane Memento: Start putting all that discard to good use.

Thank you for the suggestions. For one thing, most of my mass card draw is during my opponent's turn, and I don't have to discard until my own cleanup step. That plus the fact that Heartbeat of Spring gives me enough mana to usually play everything both make it to where maximum hand size is rarely a problem.I have thought about using Jace's Archivist, but it kind messes up my plans because I have to discard the Fogs, AEtherizes, and Cyclonic Rifts that I like to save.I like the Azure Mage and Profane Memento ideas, though. I'll see if I can fit them in sometime.

Teferi's Puzzle Box would suit you better than Jace's Erasure and Reliquary Tower gives you mana and the Spellbook ability
December 10, 2014 11:55 a.m.
Just as an FYI, Mindslaver + Academy Ruins + 12 mana = unlimited combo. It allows you to recycle Mindslaver every turn and control all of your opponents turns. It's usually accomplished with Urza Tron lands (ie: Urza's Tower, Urza's Mine, Urza's Power Plant). Since your average CMC is so high in this deck, Urza lands might be a good choice. Though I suppose it is also doable with Heartbeat of Spring and Rites of Flourishing, but those cards are taking up 7 non-land spots in your deck that could be more control.

You could easily make an edh version of this deck with Kami of the Crescent Moon as your commander if you wanted to have alot more fun lol

This is pretty good. The only big weakness I could I think of is if they have a card that increases their hand size, or gives them no maximum hand size (there is a land that does that). So they would have a bit of an upper hand having access to a lot of their deck. However this looks like it would mill pretty fast, especially with forced fruition. Good job. +1
