I love this. You must play Athreos when he is released.
I can't really think of anything to add to this deck that would make it better. It's a bit slow but how about Gift of Orzhova ? Reduces your need for Whip of Erebos (not that you run any) but lifelink + flight is nice. And it triggers some of the heroic creatures. Also, Launch the Fleet would be brilliant because it pumps Eidolon of Countless Battles and triggers heroic creatures that you have. However I'm not sure what to take out for that card.

Gift of Orzhova might be an alternative to underworld coinsmith you might want to consider. You also might want to consider Agent of the Fates

I would stick Devour Flesh in the sideboard and replace it with some other removal, you don't want the opponent to gain much life when you're trying to kill him quickly, especially since you're paying your own life for many spells.

Thanks everyone. I'm mixed on Athreos, since he doesn't return the enchantments as well, but either way he could still be very powerful. I will have to playtest him.

I really want to make Underworld Coinsmith work, but we'll see. I can't believe I forgot about Gift of Orzhova . I'm thinking about maybe running a couple, as I already do have Herald of Torment .

Frayace that makes sense, although I'm not sure what removal to play in Devour Flesh 's place. I could do Hero's Downfall , but paying 3 for a kill spell in aggro is a little steep. I guess I could try to mainboard Doom Blade or Ultimate Price ? Since they're conditional I hesitate.

Hero's Downfall > other kill spells. The fact that it's a murder for planeswalkers is huge, because Bant Superfriends is going to become a high tier deck due to the new Ajani. Of course you'll have to cater your deck to the meta at your local card shop. Doom Blade is on okay choice, but the tier one deck currently is Mono Black aggro which makes D. Blade useless. Other tier one decks include U/W control and Esper control which are reliant on planeswalkers, so stick with Downfall for that. Ultimate Price is not bad but Downfall is just so versatile.

I'm not questioning how good it is, as I know from personal experience. I was just concerned with 3 mana to cast it. Thanks!

The more that I think about it, I really like 8bitmiso's idea of comboing Launch the Fleet with Eidolon of Countless Battles . That could generate some insane damage!

no love for Spirit of the Labyrinth ?

I'm liking Spirit of the Labyrinth as a sideboard card against control matchups or mono black devotion, but not sure what to replace. Any suggestions?

GabsLaguardia says... #10

I'd keep Spirit of the Labyrinth in the mainboard. It's really aggressive, being a 3/1 body, and counts for Ethereal Armor and Eidolon of Countless Battles . But if you wanna keep it on the sb, I'd say out with Devour Flesh , 'cause you can already make your opponent sac with Agent of the Fates . If you want to mb it, replace Tormented Hero over it. =]

I might try that, although I do like the heroic trigger from Tormented Hero . But 3/1 is great...

I mean, I could do this:

Turn One: Cast Gnarled Scarhide .

Turn Two: Cast Spirit of the Labyrinth . Swing for 2 with Scarhide.

Turn Three: Cast Underworld Coinsmith and then Ethereal Armor onto Spirit of the Labyrinth . Swing with Gnarled Scarhide for 2 and Spirit of the Labyrinth for 8.

Turn Four: Bestow Eidolon of Countless Battles on Spirit of the Labyrinth , making it a 13/11 with first strike. Or drop Gift of Orzhova and another Ethereal Armor onto him, making him a 16/14 with Flying, First Strike, and Lifelink. Swing with the other 2 for an additional 4.

Assuming I did the math correctly, this deck is going to be fun. Of course, it would be wiser to split up the enchantments between creatures if I don't have flying.

Yeah, Spirit of the Labyrinth is awesome in any aggro in standard! And Tormented Hero isn't as half as fun as he seems, I was kinda disappointed after playing with him. He always ends up sacrificed for Cartel Aristocrat or serving as a lure for removal in my decks haha

Master of the Feast or Herald of Torment ? I'm leaning towards the latter.

Schuesseled says... #14

With thoughtseize in the deck, master of the feasts downside isn't much of a problem.

April 14, 2014 5:42 p.m.

UpsetYoMama says... #15

Thanks, what you say about Thoughtseize makes sense. I'll have to test both. They have distinct advantages. Master of the Feast is obviously a lot bigger, but Herald of Torment allows me to bestow on a beefed up smaller creature midgame and swing with a huge flier in this deck. Either way I already pre-ordered 4 Master of the Feast , as I have a feeling that if I don't use him in this deck he'll find a home in my mono black deck at some point.

Thinking about replacing Devour Flesh in the sideboard. Any suggestions?

Gods Willing is absolutely ridiculous. Protects against everything that can harm your creatures in the format.

JexInfinite says... #18

Maybe sideboard 2 Mizzium Skin for use with mana-confluence, maybe 1 Temple of Deceit or Temple of Enlightenment just in case.

April 15, 2014 5:53 a.m.

UpsetYoMama says... #19

Yeah that's why I am running 4. It can also allow me to swing for the win by giving me protection from a color so that they can't block.

April 15, 2014 5:08 p.m.

UpsetYoMama says... #20

Also I want Aegis of the Gods in my sideboard, but it doesn't look like the code is working yet for it.

Dictate of Heliod might work in here as well as Doomwake Giant

Thanks for the suggestions Meetreality88, but those cards are just too steep in terms of CMC to run in an aggro deck.

Soldier of the Pantheon seems like a winner.

April 16, 2014 7:29 a.m.

Caligula says... #24

Well for cheap CMC then why not use Phalanx Leader and put +1/+1 on all your creatures =)

April 16, 2014 12:11 p.m.

UpsetYoMama says... #25

Thanks for the spellcheck fluffybunnypants. It was late at night... Anyways, the only reservation I have with running Soldier of the Pantheon is that he isn't an enchantment creature. I will have to test him, he may be sideboard material.

@Meetreality88 Phalanx Leader is great and I will consider him. The only thing that I question is his WW casting cost. It might be difficult to successfully cast him turn 2. I feel like he would be more powerful in a white weenies sort of build.
