I like what you've done with the deck, and I have a few ideas for you. I'll go with Mainboard first, then Sideboard.

I agree with switching out Gnarled Scarhide for a couple of reasons, mainly he can't block and is a dead draw late game. Tormented Hero is a much better choice, but if you add him, you might want to consider more ways to enchant him to utilize his efficiency with life drain. You can find room for this by moving Spirit of the Labyrinth to Sideboard, or at least decreasing the number to 2.

Thoughtseize is a good card for that quick removal, but I find that having 2 of it and 1 Duress can get the same result, since often you are going for that removal spell or Sphinx's Revelation in their hand. Might be different in your meta though.

Gift of Orzhova NEEDS to be at least a 3-of. More than once have I seen it swing for lethal with a heroic trigger plus Ethereal Armor . It's also fantastic when combined with Hero of Iroas . Side note on that, you use a lot of bestow, which can be high mana, Hero of Iroas should be at least a 3-of as well to balance that out.

Card draw can be invaluable to you, so think of Read the Bones to net you the added enchantments to pull a win.

Sideboard. Launch the Fleet isn't really worth it, only getting 2-3 targets at most and subject to removal, counter, etc. I suggest more protection for your creatures, such as Rootborn Defenses .

Sideboard is really dependent on your meta, so play around with some cards that really battle certain decks. Dark Betrayal is good against that damn MBD, as well as Deicide to kill their Underworld Connections .

Check out my W/B list for standard: God for the Godless, maybe you can find some ideas from it that I forgot. Really happy to see all of the Athreos decks coming out recently, and mirror-matches are sight to see. Keep up the good fight!

Thank you for your thoughts! I definitely prefer Thoughtseize over Duress in part due to my meta. Usually there isn't much control, but there is a good amount of midrange. Oftentimes I am getting rid of ramp stuff like Sylvan Caryatid to screw up their mana curve, which I can't do with Duress .

Spirit of the Labyrinth is one of my main beaters and I am very hesitant to reduce the number or move her to the SB. the 3 power for 2 mana while being an enchantment is just too good.

I agree with your assessment of Gift of Orzhova and I am adding one to the MB. I don't think I want to increase Hero of Iroas at this point in time. While it does help with a good part of the deck, he's not an enchantment and sometimes ends up just being a 2/2 beater.

I'll have to think about Read the Bones . Card draw can be an issue sometimes, but Read the Bones does take up a slot and I'm not sure if it is useful enough for what I'm doing here. I don't want more 3 drops in my curve. It's a shame there's not something like Night's Whisper in standard right now.

The reason that I prefer Ajani's Presence over Rootborn Defenses is that it can also trigger Heroic abilities and in a pinch I can just pay 1 mana to survive a kill spell instead of 3 AND it boosts my creatures.

Fair enough. Playing for your local meta is always best, and if there are particular decks you have trouble against, keep it updated! I'd love to brainstorm answers!

I would suggest dropping the 4 Tormented Hero in favor of 4 Soldier of the Pantheon . It's the best 1 drop in the whole set for creatures, it doesn't come in tapped, witch can save you if you need a chump block to stay alive. The multicolor protection and the life gain is amazing, the only bad thing is that you can't Gift of Orzhova it.

Don't get me wrong, Tormented Hero is an amazing card, but I just love the Soldier of the Pantheon .

Tell me what you think!

I agree with much of Ickowitz says. The only thing I have to say is run Underworld Connections over Read the Bones . It counts as an aura spell and thus is a 2 cmc with Hero of Iroas on the board versus Read the Bones at 3 cmc.

I will playtest Soldier of the Pantheon in the slot. I do like the trigger on Tormented Hero . Both cards have downsides -- the hero comes in tapped, and I couldn't bestow Gift of Orzhova on the Soldier. I'll have to see which one hurts me more.

I hadn't thought of Hero of Iroas + Underworld Connections . That's cool and I will have to test it out as well. Thanks!

Ok so after a lot of testing here are my thoughts.

I like Soldier of the Pantheon , he is going to replace Tormented Hero .

Underworld Connections is awesome, but it has 2 downsides. The first is that Spirit of the Labyrinth makes it so that I can only use it to draw on their turn. The second is that everyone is going to side in huge enchantment hate against me -- therefore making it easier to snipe. Hero of Iroas reducing the cost is a huge bonus, though. I am going to try it for a while.

I've made some changes in numbers of cards to the deck as well.
