Well I would try Thing in the Ice  Flip mainboard initially, and then however your first match goes swap in Stormchaser Mage from your sideboard. Or you could do it even the other way around if you find you need the early blockers.

The only issue is while being a good blocker, they are the only horror creatures in the deck.Which disrupts what your doing as well.

I actually have a very similar deck that was inspired by Pedro Carvalho's deck too.

I would say in this match up Stormchaser Mage has a slight advantage due to its prowess ability. Thing in the Ice  Flip may be a good blocke and strong when flipped but Stormchaser era the damage out early. Especially with the burn type of deck you're going with. Thermo-Alchemist and Stormchaser Mage can lay quite a beating together. You should check out my standard burn deck Feel Chandra's Burn.

I honestly don't like the Hanweir Battlements over Geier Reach Sanitarium. Hanweir Battlements during the mid-game on Thermo-Alchemist might not be as good as you think because that's essentially 4 mana spent just to give Thermo-Alchemist Haste. By then, you probably only have 5-6 Lands. So you might be giving him Haste while only dealing 1-2 damage with him. Using it on Bedlam Reveler seems better, but not much better due to the same reasons.

I also highly suggest Unsubstantiate or Lightning Axe (Unsubstantiate is the better one to go with) because Kaladesh is going to, by the looks of things, bring a ton of Creature decks. Everything is going to be Creatures, Creatures, Creatures. So Unsubstantiate I think will be an all star in this type of deck.

Delta-117,
Yeah, I keep going back and forth. Do I need an early blocker and a Removal sponge? Thing in the Ice  Flip for sure. Or early damage and a way to stop Flyers? Well, that's Stormchaser Mage. Hmmm ...
By the way, Bedlam Reveler is a Horror too.
I'll give your deck a look; thanks much!

xSkulk3rx,
That's a good insight ... that the deck's emphasis on Burn vs. Control should maybe lean me towards Stormchaser.
I'll give your deck a look too; thanks much!

IzzetGod,
Yeah, I know the appeal of Geier Reach Sanitarium (especially if I was running Lightning Axe), but I'd rather have the Haste. I would actually rather have Unblockable, but I'm out of luck until we get another Rogue's Passage reprint ...

I actually ran Unsubstantiate last season, and it was OK. But it's looking like there are just too many Creatures with powerful ETB effects in this set, so I'd rather keep them off the battlefield in the first place, with Horribly Awry (for almost everything) and Ceremonious Rejection (for Eldrazi and Artifact Creatures).

Thanks again to all!

I personally think stormchaser mage allows a more tempo kind of game. thing in the ice is great but you play it turn 2 and has a great body to block but your not gonna flip him till like turn 5-6 since turn 3 your gonna cast fevered visions which doesnt trigger thing in the ice but on the other hand does trigger mage. downside is that mage more acceptable to remove spells. If you were playing a deck where you sit back using control magic and removal spells i say thing in the ice a awesome but im thinking mage allows a you to soar in and smack for damage at will and prowess is a added bonus with 26 non creature spells.

You bet. And thank YOU for all the ideas!

Thanks; hope yours does too!

deltacobra,
Thanks much for the comments. That's pretty much what I was thinking too, but I wanted to reach out to the larger community to make sure :-)
