black devotion deck
a design I've wanted to do for a while, just make a black devoted deck based around the best black has to offer for low pure black mana devotion creatures, winning through pure strength, proper disruption, the hard to stop creatures, or the bomb.
Disruption- Harsh Scrutiny is a very good card in that it lets you look at the opponent's hand and get rid of any problem creatures before they become problems and improves deck performance by scrying 1. Grasp of Darkness currently one of the best removals in black and magic in general for it's mana cost and works best with
Guul Draz Assassin
to be able to kill most creatures in any format, since it can hit anything, and kills indestructible creatures if they're small enough and kill regen creatures since regen can't save something that simply no longer exists.
Guul Draz Assassin
levels up to be a pretty beefy vampire to work as a potential blocker but once leveled up can control the field by killing other creatures and working with Grasp of Darkness to kill most creatures in magic.
The hard to stop creatures- Vampire Cutthroat can't be stopped except by 1/1 creatures and provides constant small scratching damage while giving small life. Pharika's Chosen is a good small death touch creature that can slow the enemy from swinging with big things or important creatures. Gifted Aetherborn is a pretty solid 2 mana drop with deathtouch and lifegain provides a small measure of control and limiting what the opponent would swing with and is really good for 2 as a 2/3.
Highborn Ghoul
can only be stopped by black and or artifact creatures so he also provides constant scratch damage which can end the game or help pave the way nearly every turn once he hits the floor.
Geralf's Messenger
he may come in tapped but burns the opponent for direct 2 damage and this also triggers when his undying goes off plus he is hard to permanently kill and only gets a little tougher if he was stopped before his undying triggers.
Pure strength- Korlash, Heir to Blackblade works by bringing more swamps to the field and a super beefy zombie that can be regenerated, his discard for the other korlash can fill the board with swamps and clear some really big creatures or swing for big damage especially if attached to a Lashwrithe to become twice as tough. Lashwrithe this card is really meant to be either attached to Korlash, Heir to Blackblade or Phyrexian Obliterator to work as an ultra powerful equipment creature and works well by itself. Phyrexian Obliterator works by himself to be a significant threat clearing the board of anything can be brought back with Mortuary Mire later on.
The Bomb- Gray Merchant of Asphodel becomes the bomb once enough creatures have entered the field and end the game hopefully with the high mana devotion of the deck but also works as a good attacker/blocker and can maybe be brought back with Mortuary Mire.
