This deck is made based on my idea I had for my modern deck Fight to the Deathtouch!.
This will be the first Standard deck I will have ever made. I want it to be competitive and frustrate my opponents! Thus, I decided to make a deck that is heavily based on deathtouch. This particular deck idea features the following:
Hornet Nest +
Savage Punch
or
Setessan Tactics
give you all the deathtouch fodder you need. Once you have your deathtouch creatures in play use
Fall of the Hammer
and fight cards to frustrate your opponents and wipe their creatures with your expendable weenies. I feel that opponents will be reluctant to attack with all the deathtouch in play, but will be sorry they didn't once I start picking off their creatures with two mana cost spells :)
I think one of the most effective combo's in this deck is to cast
Titanic Growth
on
Agent of the Fates
followed by
Savage Punch
or
Setessan Tactics
. Depending on your opponents board state this alone could wipe out every creature on their field and still allow you to attack for substantial damage.
I have also considered adding in Purphoros, God of the Forge but not sure what I would take out for him at this point. He would never become a creature because I would never have the red devotion, but when you combine his ability to deal 2 damage for every creature I bring into play with my ability to bring anywhere from 5-10 hornets into play in one turn it could be very deadly. Let me know what you think about this and what you would remove to add him in! Thanks!
Some other fun combos:
Titanic Growth
their creature when you block with Hornet Nest
Titanic Growth
your
Agent of the Fates
then fight it against your Hornet Nest! Removal plus 7 deathtouch flyers! fun!
Most of the cost ($$$) comes in the form of land in this deck. You could bring the cost of this deck down to around $15 if you wanted to use some different mana fixing techniques.
With a deck with a mana curve as low as this one, what does everyone think about the amount of land I have added? Should/could it be less then the normal 40%?
Please upvote and comment if you enjoy this idea! Thanks!
UPDATE OCT 21
Added initial sideboard cards.
Soul of New Phyrexia is the best way I can find to deal with board wipes.
Ranger's Guile and Mortal's Resolve are good ways to deal with heavy burn or removal decks.
Purphoros, God of the Forge combined with Hornet Nest could win games handily.
OPEN TO SUGGESTIONS!!!
UPDATE NOV 12
Based on many great suggestions I have made a few minor changes to the deck which I believe allows for more versatility. The sideboard is also complete. Let me know what you think of what I feel could be the final version of this deck before I build it and use it myself :)
Thank you all for your upvotes and ideas! Keep it coming!
