Firemane Avenger attacking WITH Battalion, on Turn 3!
T1 - Forest, Elvish Mystic
T2 - Plains or Mountain, Burning-Tree Emissary, Hellraiser Goblins or Lightning Mauler (unpaired)
T3 Plains or Mountain (must have 1 mountain + 1 plains by this point!) - Tap Elvish Mystic for green mana and mountain for red, Infernal Plunge on Elvish Mystic for 3 red mana, tap Plains for 1 white mana, cast Firemane Avenger, which now has haste and 2 other attackers on the field,1 green mana floating to be able to cast Ranger's Guile or Giant Growth if needed to counter removal or creature burn pre-combat (most who can will attempt to prevent battalion from triggering at any cost), and 1 forest still open and able to do the same during/after combat if needed.
Alternate Method without Infernal Plunge (still uses lighting mauler or hellraiser goblins)
T1 - Forest, Elvish Mystic
T2 - Any land, Burning-Tree Emissary, Lightning Mauler or Hellraiser Goblins
T3 - Any land (as long as there's 1 white and 1 red by now), 3 lands + elvish mystic = 4 mana, play Firemane Avenger, swing with Emissary + Mauler or Goblins + Avenger
Note: This will work with any 4-drop as well (including Tajic), but post-rotation seems to be limited to having exactly 4 mana and 3 creatures on turn 3
Thoughts/Suggestions welcome, this is early prototype and I don't own anywhere near all the dual lands for this but I do have everything else; I've built and played something very similar to this at FNM before but only as Red/White and could only bring out Avenger on turn 4, but it pretty much bulldozed over other aggro decks due to repeatable targeted removal and handled mid-range pretty well too by just flying over and helixing to the face.
After reading an article where someone mentioned Arbor Elf and Infernal Plunge to bring out a 5-drop on turn 2, it occurred to me: what's better than an attacking Firemane Avenger on turn 4? How about one on Turn 3? :)
