What do you guys think of Ephemeral Shields? The problem is that it doesn't protect against path and if you top deck it, unlike top decking return to the ranks, it is useless; at least initially. I was thinking of a card that is more proactive unlike company. I think ally aggro wants that turn 4 win, and if the control player is on the play, they can hit that turn 4 sweep, but convoking that instant seems pretty powerful though. Thoughts?

Also, since it only targets one, it can be weak there, however, I assume that if the opponent has gotten down to a low life, one big 5/5 creature being saved can win it...

aubman02 I don't feel the 5 color Allies. Do you ever get color-screwed?

@Aubman02

I would personally run Brave the Elements over shields

@Brionac I rarely get color screwed. I have cavern of souls, city of brass, and vial to smooth out the colors. along with that the fetch lands pick up for the rest. With that said, you have to pay attention to your opening hand and make sure you don't keep a bad hand. You also have to make sure you have the green white available for coco, scales, and path. Basically, with a little practice, its no big deal.@ mightywesley I was trying to find something to help with board wipes, and makeing it more proactive. the problem with brave is that it is only for white creatures.

@aubman02 did you think of Boros Charm or Simic Charm although this one doesn't help with the board wipes

Boros Charm seems really good against board wipes.

In my opinion the best dodge card is Cloudshift it not only safe your ally against path or bolt but it also triggers ETB so if you have Kabira Evangel it could save you against board wipe as well.

I really do like cloudshift. i might try it soon.

Nef says... #10

Cloudshift is nice but in my build I can't afford vial so I have to cast all my stuff so i often don't have enough mana to leave it open. I also find if to be a dead card sometimes. Gideon is looking real nice for my g/w mid rangey ally deck. Veteran war leader is in it as a one of for now

September 8, 2015 3:02 p.m.

ehuez says... #11

its never a dead card if you dont need it to protect your allies you can everywhen cast it on summoned creature to trigger ETB again or cast it on tapped creature to use it on block

Nef says... #12

Not if I have no creatures. Which has happened. I go against very heavy control / counter heavy decks. Makes me want aether vial even more

ehuez says... #13

have you considered Cavern of Souls? its the best against control. The only disadvantages is its price but if you have budget for go for it!

Nef says... #14

Yeah that is next on the list too. I'm not working a lot with college so I probably can't get cavern or vial anytime soon

New ally spoiler! It seems very powerful.

Drana

mana cost 3 (2x black)

Flying, First Strike

When Drana deals combat damage to an opponent, put a +1/+1 counter on each attacking creature you control.

2/3

The blood chief herself lol

MadKat says... #17

she's definitely going in. I'm not sure how many off the top of my head...

September 8, 2015 5:34 p.m.

Is it confirmed that she is an ally? Or does she just have an effect that screams allies? Regardless, she is a huge boon for allies and finally gives allies a strong reason to run black.

Drana if you dont trust me check it here

Type: Creature - Ally, Vampire

September 8, 2015 6:35 p.m.

I am still mildly skeptical as the link doesn't state that she is legendary, which she obviously would be. But color me like 80% convinced. Give us another 1 drop ally in black or white and I will play orzhov allies all day. Give us a 1 drop green? I don't see a reason to not play abzan allies. That would just be gross.

Zada is also insane.

3R

3/3 (only downside)

Whenever you cast a spell that only targets zada. You may copy it to eaxh creature that its able to target. Gisnt growth my wholr field for 1? Dont mind if i do!

September 8, 2015 7:07 p.m.

Not being able to be played via CoCo is also a downside. But I agree, it is pretty good. I can only see it as a 1 of though, and I m not sure it is quite good enough to make the cut since it might only wind up seeing play in aggressive ally decks... which usually dont need to swing for 15 on turn 4. He kind of feels like overkill or win more. I guess I could maybe see him in a midrange shell though with some bounce spells. Makes Cloudshift and Momentary Blink pretty insane.

mightywesley says... #23

Ah thats right. So what do you thunk is the expected price of hada freeblade? Etc.

September 8, 2015 8:06 p.m.

mightywesley says... #24

Zada went from $5 to $8 now in a few hours. Better buy them now! I see it being atleast $15+. I should of bought some haha

I don't think Zada will be a staple for designated Ally decks. He has the creature type, alright, but typically we want to play at least ~25 creatures for reliable gas. And other Spells typically include AEther Vial, Collected Company, Hardened Scales, Path to Exile and Boros Charm. All of which already compete for the few non-Ally slots. Shenanigans with a kicked Rite of Replication are really just winmore, maybe blinking the entire team could be of some use, but is not reliable enough imo. Ghostway would be a better inclusion if you plan on evading Sweepers turn 4. I just don't see what kind of spell would be absurdly powerful to be copied on each of our creatures if we could just establish further board presence with another Ally, plus getting stuff like Protection, Lifelink and who knows what they come up with from other Allies on the board(maybe a GU one similar to Veteran Warleader which grants Hexproof?). Remember that every Instant/Sorcery card for Zada one draws is potentially useless if one doesn't have enough board presence.
