Son-of-Mace, they don't count as basics. They can, however, be tutored by fetches that search for lands of their types.
ElendVenture, the bouncelands are very useful without Amulet of Vigor, it just speeds them up.
First off, they RETURN A LAND TO YOUR HAND! Want to repeatedly abuse your temples or Halimar Depths? These allow that.
The other thing they do is produce two mana. With no downside.
I would actually cut Rupture Spire/Transguild Promenade. They're not very good. Ancient Ziggurat is arguably better, especially considering it'll help cast about half your spells.

If you're concerned about a slow start, Thran Dynamo could assist you. Perhaps dump a land for it?

I have a deck similar to this built. It desperately needs some professional attention. I was wondering if you could give me some advice?

zzepic101 Aside from Dictate of Erebos and Dictate of Heliod, they just help your opponents too much.

Starfield of Nyx considered at all?
Ugin, the Spirit Dragon seems good, but I could be wrong.

I have to say, I love this deck. I do have one criticism I found it is still rather slow. I suggest more lands or land tutor cards or stall cards like Maze of Ith.

asasinater13: Unfortunately, Starfield of Nyx doesn't play very well with most of the gods. It brings most of their p/t down, and it screws with the devotion triggers depending on what order the cards were played. So it's more of a bother than it's worth in the end. As for Ugin, the Spirit Dragon, his -X ability screws me over just as much or more than my opponents. His +2 isn't really relevant all that often, and his -10 just makes him a giant target when it's close to popping. He's great in my Jhoira deck though!
trogdor101: I completely agree with you on this being slower than I'd like. Unfortunately, the best way to fix that would be a full set of fetch lands and a full set of A/B/U dual lands. But that's way too rich for my blood at the moment. As for running more lands, I used to run 38. This left me drawing into too many lands late game though, so I cut a few in favor of more support cards. Using a Partial Paris, I almost never miss a land drop early game. As such, the 33 I currently run has been serving well. Maze of Ith though, I just haven't had a chance to get one.

ElendVenture ah I totally see. perhaps then some life gain or stall to get you to that later game that you dominate like a boss.Glacial Chasm destroys a land but it buys you essentially 20 turns free of attack. realistically perhaps 7-10 turns for the red player to draw a card that will destroy it. Also Glacial Chasm is rather cheap. So yaaaay. You also may choose to up the blue of the deck and play Braids, Conjurer Adept to cheat the harder to play cards onto the field. Hanna, Ship's Navigator is great for your gods when they get Cataclysmed however I don't thing Cataclysm is used very much (even though it should be), so ultimately I don't recommend Hanna, Ship's Navigator. Another solution is to simply draw SO many cards that suddenly it doesn't matter you have a high or low land ratio, you got so many cards in hand that you will have what u need anyway. I REALLY like the usage of all the gods. Seriously. Its divine badum tis.

trogdor101 I could do some playtesting with Glacial Chasm, seen a few people use it in decks against me. The only problem I have with it is that I don't really have a way to destroy it myself. I don't want something off flavor for that purpose, and I want whatever it is to have other uses as well. Hammer of Purphoros would work best for that, but I don't really need the haste most of the time. I will consider it though, it seems like it could give me a lot of time. As for Braids, Conjurer Adept, I've tried her before. She helps everyone else out just as much or more than me, so I don't think I want to go back down that route. I have plenty of ways to cheat things out already anyway! Hanna, Ship's Navigator would be interesting, but I feel like my recursion game is pretty strong already, and it's won me several games.
Now card draw, that's something I'm excited about adding more of. I plan to add Argothian Enchantress and/or Verduran Enchantress as soon as I can get my hands on them. Ever since I added the three Enchantress cards I have right now, my card draw has shot through the roof. I'm seriously considering adding an Expedition Map now so I can hit Reliquary Tower earlier in the game.

ElendVenture don't worry about destroying Glacial Chasm simply by not paying the upkeep it destroys it self. Also Expedition Map is a really good idea. I'll probably put it in my Friendly friend game deck rather than the Spellbook.

ElendVenture :P lol don't feel bad man. I only have a measly 3 years exp as well. The only reason why I know cumulative upkeep is because I did a bit of experimentation with Illusions of Grandeur. Its pretty funny to gain 20 hen deal 20 damage to an opponent by swapping control of the card.

trogdor101 Hahaha! That goes right up there with Demonic Pact. I might have to make a deck with those two in it now.

ElendVenture HAHAH I never seen that demonic pact card before, so when I was reading it was like, hm ok, that's fine, very nice, wait... WHAT. (insert that escalated quickly gif here)
Hit me up if you wanna make that troll deck man. I been making a Zedruu the Greathearted commander deck, and I have a few cards that can make it easier to trade them that card. Best probably Donate.

trogdor101 The face on Donate, that's exactly the face I would make after using it. :D I'll hit you up when I finally start on the deck. I have too many other projects going on to add another one at the moment.

trogdor101 Yeah, I've tried that before just for the hell of it. It only works once in a given meta before they start hating you out of the game. I think I prefer the slow inevitable build toward victory over janky overpriced one-shots. I've found that if I'm not dead by turn 5 or 6, I generally win... as long as there are no infinite combos waiting for me. :p

oh damn. that's not bad actually. maybe Child of Alara instead of Progenitus for the commander then. the gods are indestructible so its kinda like u just blow all them up.
July 30, 2015 3:08 p.m.
ElendVenture says... #23
trogdor101, Child of Alara would be a bad commander for this deck as it stands. Only the gods are indestructible without Avacyn, I have too many other cards that the gods depend on for devotion to run Child successfully in this deck. I've tried it before with a different build, and it can work well if you use the proper cards to exploit him. But sorry, he doesn't work as the commander here. Besides, why would I not want to try to cast Progenitus from the command zone on turn 5 with Fist of Suns? Did it a couple weeks ago and the table called a judge cause they thought it was an illegal play, that was a fun day. :p
July 31, 2015 11:54 a.m.
How often do you actually get to cast Deus of Calamity or any of the other spirit avatars? With a five-color land base, it seems very unlikely that you'd get the required mana in any reasonable frame of time unless you draw or tutor Chromatic Lantern. Logic dictates that I recommend you cut them, even though they're important to the flavor of the deck and help turn the Theros gods into creatures.
