tjjonny2000 most good board wipes are Sorcery speed.
You have misread the meta.
Merfolk decks run Merfolk Mistbinder, which automatically makes their Creatures at least 3 Toughness.
Fiery Cannonade fails to get rid of Pirate tribes altogether, and is Rubbish against Dinosaur tribes.
These are three of the strongest tribal decks we see around, at the moment.
Bontu's Last Reckoning takes care of all of them.

just playing devils advocate... the Fiery Cannonade kills the Merfolk Mistbinder leaving the rest with 2 toughness and 2 damage on them... killing them all.and i havent seen any pirate decks running round personally. most of ramunap decks creatures where all 1-2 toughness and not pirates :D and i agree it isnt usefull against dinosaurs apart from to add a few extra points of damage to the creatures to swing some combat math in your favour (so not ideal).
do like Bontu's Last Reckoning but just my play style would rather have 2 main instead of 2 of the Metalspinner's Puzzleknot and possibly replace them with Live Fast. since you dont have any artifact synergy or anything that requires a lot on board. (and would help a little with your Harnessed Lightning )
January 29, 2018 6:24 a.m.
tjjonny2000 what if they have two Merfolk Mistbinder?
I was just using a quick example because this discussion is becoming increasingly tedious.
Have you played or playtested against any Merfolk decks? They have multiple ways of putting +1/+1 counters on their most valuable Creatures.
I don't know how much Magic you play. There are quite a few aggro Pirate decks around at the moment.
You don't see any real reason for Metalspinner's Puzzleknot? I don't think you have playtested this deck.
The earlier draw is very advantageous, it assists with getting the City's Blessing (which also makes me think you haven't read my "How to Play" section, where that is explained quite a few times), and it also allows extra damage if Unlicensed Disintegration is Sided in.
Anyway, Painful Lesson is superior to Live Fast in decks such as this one. It not only gives the same draw option, for exactly the same cost, but it also allows you to target your Opponent if they are on 2 life.
You have made your points, repeatedly, so now this is just a time wasting exercise for me. I am back to being testy.
As you are new to this site, I will give you some advice. Making the same case for the same card on somebody's deck will do little more than annoy them.
If they have said they don't like a card, and given valid reasons, accept that and move on.

tjjonny2000 I've stopped reading your messages, and started just deleting them.
Their frequency, in the face of me pointing out that they have become little more than irritating, has reached the level of trolling.
If you keep making them on this deck I will need to block you.
I don't wish to do that.

Argy Ah sorry about that, I'm in Canada so I really only see it as hijinks.
Good luck with your deckbuilding! Love the work you've done

Mardu_Maniac no worries, mate.
I wasn't 100% sure myself, as we are flooded with US spelling here, so I checked before using.
Thanks for the kind words.
sigh
When someone thinks they are making some kind of point, but really they are only making things worse for themself.
It bewilders me why someone would take a couple of minutes to type something that takes me one second to delete, and I have already said I am not bothering to read.

I have some suggestions for making your deck better for the current meta right now. As we all know merfolk and vampires are good right now and grixis control is coming back. Your deck would be better aggro as it kind of is already. Take out Unlicensed Disintegration and Metalspinner's Puzzleknot. It is kind of bad and you only play 4 artifacts so Unlicensed Disintegration will rarely activate, I understand it is card draw but it is not that good. Play 4 Angrath, the Flame-Chained as it is your build around and kind of silly not to play 4. Don't play Harnessed Lightning because you don't play any other energy. Don't play one Arch of Orazca and don't play any at all. It is overrated. Sideboard Scavenger Grounds. Twilight Prophet is ok in your deck but don't expect to reveal anything big. Main board Abrade.
Now for the maybe board... don't play one of's ever. Don't play one Duress or one Dispossess. Doomfall is kind of bad and especially one of. Better graveyard cards than Crook of Condemnation. Like Silent Gravestone. And don't play Primal Amulet Flip because you don't have any good instants/sorcery cards for it to hit. It is made for cards like Ribbons or Torment of Hailfire. Supernatural Stamina and Endless Sands are bad and even one of's.

Apex_killjoy02 it would take me ages to respond to eveything you said, and I'm tired.
So I'll limit myself to three thoughts.
You made a lot of assumptions as to why I chose certain cards, or certain numbers of cards. All of those assumptions were wrong.
You seem to have a lot of rules about which cards work in which ways. Very rigid ways. See the text under my "Before You Give Me Suggestions" tab.
Don't assume that because I have one copy of a card in my Maybeboard that I would only add one copy of that card. That is just silly. Those are cards I am keeping on the back burner, dependant on my local meta. Which I said under the "Sideboard" tab.
This deck tests well against the decks in my meta.
I am sure it will need some tweaks.

Hello! I'm a big fan of control decks and this, right now, is my favorite. It can destroy the meta of creature decks and has good matchups against control. I was just wondering what I should change to fit it under $100.
February 1, 2018 9:49 a.m.
GlouriousDay this does surprisingly well against Control in tests.
It remains to be seen how it does IRL.
Unfortunately it is completely balanced, so you can't really change any cards around and have it still work effectively.
Sorry about that.

I will try to get the entire deck and then tell you how it matches irl.
February 2, 2018 11:15 a.m.
Actually, DON'T do that until I've run it at Tournament.
I will let you know how it goes.
I should have all the cards by Thursday, and will play it at Standard Showdown.

Thanks! I was also thinking maybe Essence Extraction or Reaver Ambush as budget removal.
February 2, 2018 12:54 p.m.
GlouriousDay you can try them to see if they work.
Neither of them will deal will most of the Gods.
February 2, 2018 6:15 p.m.
Calispotato thanks for the Upvote.
No one in my local meta is playing God-Pharaoh's Gift, Oketra's Monument, or Mardu Vehicles at the moment.
This deck is very tailored to my local meta.
Local meta is also the reason why Lost Legacy is in the Sideboard.
Bontu's Last Reckoning does all the things that you listed for Sweltering Suns, but it also hits the Dinos in my local meta.
The lone Lightning Strike in my Mainboard worried my, and I needed another Abrade somewhere in the deck, so I've replaced it with that card.
Harnessed Lightning is too damn efficient, and works well against early Creature plays, so it is staying in the Mainboard.
Thanks for all the feedback.

Love this deck and am excited to play it, +1, what do you think of Noxious Gearhulk instead of Tetzimoc, Primal Death? It falls on the same place on the curve and you have stated that usually you only kill one creature with Tetzimoc, Primal Death anyway. With Noxious Gearhulk you will get the life gain and can avoid being chump blocked seeing as he has menace, also it isnt a legendary like Tetzimoc so if you happened to draw both copies it wouldnt be dead, just a thought!
February 12, 2018 10:31 p.m.
Murkatron I certainly think that could work.
The reason why I've only been killing one Creature with Tetzimoc, Primal Death is because that's all that has been around.
The life gain from Noxious Gearhulk would certainly be useful.
One advantage with Tetzimoc is that it can help get rid of larger Creatures that might have slipped through the removal net.
It can also potentially get rid of more than one Creature, whereas Noxious Gearhulk can't.
Of course you also get 6 damage with Tetzimoc, as well as the ability to block and kill Opponent Creatures, if they start to go wide after you've dropped it.
I can see the value in both Creatures, but I'm still leaning towards Tetzimoc.

How has running the full 4 Magma Sprays been working for you? I've found them to be lackluster against all but the lowest-to-the-ground agro decks, and have cut down on a few to MD more Abrades. I noticed that you don't have any 3-drops, which is something I've also been dealing with when trying out my version of this deck. I had Arch of Orazca in my build originally, but found it hard to get the city's blessing in goldfishing since running a ton of removal spells doesn't give much opportunity to build up a board. Since you are using Harnessed Lightning, have you given any thought to running Glint-Sleeve Siphoner and Aether Hub for additional energy production/use? I'm not big into standard, but I normally like having a somewhat decent deck to use for the few occasions I get to play. Here's my list so far, and I'd appreciate any advice you'd be willing to share with your experience playing this deck - RB cards I own.

GeminiSpartanX I have to agree. Since zombies rotated out of Standard Magma Spray has been lackluster; it's good against Mono-, but I haven't seen it in action a whole lot lately (and I've been successful vs. that deck without it); and Abrade gets much more mileage in this format. Glint-Sleeve Siphoner is seeing ALOT of play in a variety of /x decks; and its a pain to deal with. The extra card draw is huge.
Argy I know your meta is different than mine, but I decided to take out Last Reckoning for Hour of Devastation and it has won me games. Bontu has cost me games before due to its drawback. Standard I find is such a quick format you can't afford to lose a turn. Dinos just isn't there in my meta. The only Dino I've seen that has caused me problems is Carnage Tyrant, for obvious reasons
February 14, 2018 8:24 a.m.
Magma Spray is essential in my local meta.
You need to think of it as a way to Exile stuff that is more than 2 Toughness as well, like The Scarab God and Rekindling Phoenix, when combined with another removal spell.
We have a lot of Adorned Pouncer and Scrapheap Scrounger running around.
Someone also plays God-Pharaoh's Gift, and it is great against that.
It's also just a terrific early game removal spell. This deck is Control. You need removal from Turn 1.
Cut / Ribbons acts like a 3 drop for me. As does the activated ability on Metalspinner's Puzzleknot.
GeminiSpartanX are you getting confused like a lot of people, and not taking Lands into account as permanents that trigger the City's Blessing?
In this deck, running Creatures and Metalspinner's Puzzleknot, the City's Blessing is easy to achieve, late game. Hence only one copy of Arch of Orazca.
Glint-Sleeve Siphoner is not right for this deck. It is the Control Archetype, and does not want to play Creature spells in the early game.
Aether Hub is not right for it, either. Not alongside the four copies of Scavenger Grounds that I need to also Exile stuff from Graveyards, particularly to shut down Torrential Gearhulk, The Scarab God, and God-Pharaoh's Gift. I haven't needed the extra , as of yet. Again, probably because I run Cut / Ribbons.
I have a process for people to use if they want me to take a look at their deck.
AgentGreen I have never been the sort to play card x, just because other decks are playing it. I prefer Twilight Prophet for this build.
Bontu's Last Reckoning has been amazing for me. It might just suit my play style better than yours.
Hour of Devastation is too slow, and doesn't hit all the stuff I need it to. Carnage Tyrant, as you pointed out, for a start.

Thank you for the advice on linking cards :)I like having the board wipe sit in hand.. to me it is a reset button.. a 'if I fail to control this resets it" probably more psychological than anything.. but it's always good having an out when the going gets tough.
And Sweltering Suns Vs Fiery Cannonade I will always go for the instant speed over the sorcery :) Against the decks where both are relevent the 1-damage difference is minor.. I don't see much with 3 toughness at the moment.. but messing up their combat math with an instant 2 extra damage on things is always good :)Can agree to disagree though
