I like the card Flamewright. I wanted to durdle with it. So I scribbled a deck skeleton including some of my go-to incremental artifact durdling package.
With Kaladesh coming up, Constructs and Thopters will soon be in vogue. This deck delivers on those with a clockwork-like assembly line and then upgrades them into a drone army.
Flamewright plays defense as you drop Constructs, tick them up, spam tokens, Kuldotha Forgemaster for key buffs, and swarm in.Galvanic Blast and Shrapnel Blast provide some on-demand damage for removal and reach.Dispatch and Dispense Justice take care of creatures that the red spells don't work on by virtue of size or damage immunity.Contagion Clasp and Contagion Engine do that and overclock the Steel Overseer, Hangarback Walker, and Chimeric Mass. The Clasps can come down early enough to help an Everflowing Chalice.
Obelisk of Urd names Construct, hitting everything but the Flamewright itself, the Thopters, Indomitable Angel, and Jor Kadeen. It could also name Thopters if you're sitting on Hangarback Walker or Thopter Assembly.Thopter Assembly and Eldrazi Monument provide evasion and resilience to wraths. Indomitable Archangel protects utility cards from targeted removal. Unwinding Clock lets your creatures do double duty attacking and blocking, as well as speeding up Hangarback Walker and the Contagion artifacts. Furthermore, it resets Everflowing Chalice to fuel proliferation and your removal / damage spells as necessary.
Suggestions for improvement are welcome. My first question is what the proper number and distribution of lands should be. Second Question is if the list needs more protection.
The deck is pretty budget, so the only non-basics in the mana base are random singles I happen to already own. I already own everything else except around 7 cards ( Jor Kadeen, Memorial, 2 Hangarbacks, 3 Flamewrights), and perhaps a couple copies of commons.
Tapped-out reports the total cost of the deck (excluding maybeboard) as about $100 on TCGPlayer. Over half of that is from the Steel Overseers and the Sacred Foundry. Nothing else costs more than a couple dollars. Most cards are about $0.50 .
The cards can be found in the following sets, ordered roughly by concentration:
Scars of Mirrodin (SOM), Mirrodin Besieged (MBS), New Phyrexia (NPH), Magic Core Set 2015 (M15), Conspiracy (CNS), Magic Core Set 2011 (M11), Magic Origins (ORI), Worldwake (WWK), Zendikar (ZEN), Theros (THS), Commander Products and Duel Decks (some printings).
