Thanks Pal00ka! I appreciate the feedback. you caught me when I was updating the deck and making a bunch of changes but I think I've narrowed down my choices quite a bit and set up the custom categories. I'm struggling to decide what to put in the remaining 3 spots though. I've put the possible cards I was thinking about adding in the maybe board, thoughts?

How about Groundbreaker? It does damage, gets itself killed, and is a good scavenge target.

@Lanzo493: I can't believe I forgot about Groundbreaker! I just did my first round of testing last night so I'm trying some different things out. I'll try it out and it might make the cut. Thanks for the suggestion!

Ground Seal is a nice card, but will stop a lot of other cards from functioning, like Sheoldred, Whispering One, Eternal Witness and others. Still worth it?

It is because it's just the two cards you mentioned plus Deadbridge Chant, Volrath's Stronghold, and Scavenging Ooze. So 5 cards will not function properly with Ground Seal out and with Sheoldred, Whispering One most things she would bring back would die right away anyways because they are intended as scavenge targets. It's a card that I play depending on who my opponents are. In my meta, if I play anyone with , , or I'm trying to drop ground seal right away. Yes it's great to prevent the occasional Relic of Progenitus but it's even better to stop their reanimation targets and their Snapcaster Mage or Academy Ruins. Another option if I play it but need to play one of those 5 cards that target my yard I can waste my Abrupt Decay on it. I'll keep testing it for a while and see if it ends up being a dead card or if it really does help out. If I end up removing it I would swap it out for Witchbane Orb.

FYI: Ground Seal only stops spells and abilities that say "target card in graveyard". "a card" is not "target card".
So cards like Tormod's Crypt, Relic of Progenitus (both abilities), Deadbridge Chant and Bojuka Bog will not be stopped.

Witchbane Orb is more fitting, as it does stop most of the graveyard-bugging cards mentioned.

@ Tyr_W: I did know that about Tormod's and Bojuka but I wasn't fully reading Relic or Deadbridge so thanks for clearing that up. I think I'm really wanting Ground Seal to work because it's a great defense against graveyard strategies and it's only to cast and it draws me a card. Maybe the answer is play Witchbane Orb also... I'll do some testing before I commit to one or the other or both.

@bluetigerreed: Thanks! I finally have made a list with the majority of my favorite cards all in one deck. I kept going back and forth from several of my favorite generals but none of those lists let me fit in so many awesome cards with so much synergy! This list is what I feel commander is all about, crazy interactions that no one saw coming. Like swinging with a huge creature and when my opponent tries to remove it, sacrifice it to Greater Good and draw 15 cards then play a Reliquary Tower on my second main and pass the turn.

Thanks Deathwolf21! Since you asked I'll absolutely type up some strategies and go more in depth with card usage. I'll Try to get to it tonight or tomorrow. After it's done I'll add an update to the deck. If you +1 the deck or hit subscribe you'll get a notification when it's done. Also, I'd appreciate the upvote. :) Thanks for looking. Keep an eye out for the update.

@Deathwolf21: I don't think I'm going to run Grim Flayer. He is a great card and I think he could fit in here if it were more of a dredge build but currently I don't know what I'd remove. However he does share a creature type with Varolz so that does make him even better in here so I'm on the fence.

Squirrel_of_War: Have you considered Shriekmaw? It has evasion and a kill spell attached to it.
I really like your deck, +1 from me!

I love Shriekmaw but I think it fits better in a Meren of Clan Nel Toth deck. There's not really anything I'm willing to remove for it in here.

No Tainted Strike? My list includes Skullclamp and some ways to keep protection for varolz like Bloodghast. Brawn is also extremely useful. The same is true for Berserk. But I play varolz in duel commander because I was always ganged upon after a series of early one shots :D

Thanks for the suggestions! I built this deck for multiplayer but I also sometimes play Duel Commander with it as well. I like Tainted Strike but my playgroup already hates my 14/14 Inkmoth Nexus and Skittles enough so I don't think I'll add any more infect at the moment. Skullclamp is great and I may add it in. I've been contemplating swapping out my equipment cards for Bloodghast and Reassembling Skeleton since I could use them to regen Varolz so I'll test it out. I don't find much use for Brawn because all my threats have evasion built in but I would totally play Berserk if I could get my hands on one. It's like $90 for the awesome FtV version. Thanks for looking and don't forget to +1 if you like the deck. :)

I love seeing a varolz deck! He was my first commander that i built around. Awesome decklist. Love that pic with him and jarad too. I ran Doubling Season in my old varolz deck but your list looks like it may not need it.

I appreciate the suggestion you gave me so here's my thoughts, though tempered, because I'm sure your description-to-come will explain your choices in detail:
When I made my deck the focus was on scavenging cheap guys for more counters but not have it always be about attacking. This was so the deck could be flexible and have different win-cons so it wouldn't be stale/predictable.
With your build it looks like it's nearly all about attacking, which is fine, but predictable. Shadow is an interesting and nearly guaranteed unblockable but it seems like a better tactic for 1v1. Once your opponents see you do it once the bulls-eye will be on you.
Speaking of 1v1, quite a few cards in here seem better for that than multiplayer. Ex. Essence Harvest; Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord is way better.
Why Overeager Apprentice? Why not Yavimaya Dryad who puts a forest into play immediately, can be sacked for a variety of reasons, and then scavenged for 2 counters? I'm also surprised you have so little ramp and only 36 lands. Scavenge seems to be a mana-hungry mechanic.
You have little token generation so Overwhelming Stampede looks underwhelming. I've put a small emphasis on tokens because of Varolz. I'd rather sack a token to regenerate him than my Predator Ooze and lose all my counters. They're perfect fodder in a deck like this, especially paired with Dictate of Erebos and/or Grave Pact too.
I look forward to seeing this turn into a primer and how Varolz evolves!
