I love all the foils in this deck, I still trying to figure out stuff to add to it, I like Torpor Orb andVampiric Tutor. Also just a heads up Griselbrand is banned. But I love the deck looks like fun to play vs. I will keep my eye on it and see what I can think of.

Thanks for the suggestions Shane.Allen. I only toss in Griselbrand for Duel Commander and I just double checked the duel commander banlist and he is still legal unless I'm missing something.
F3A5t: I'm a Golgari fanatic! I also love Jund, Grixis, and Sultai. Pretty much any combo that has ... or just mono .

Yeah I used to be a Gruul deck guy buy when I came back I started to run golgari and I'm loving it! I really like sultai and abzan as well.

This seems quite good. I like Varloz a lot and have been looking for anything that is not Meren lol

I like this, especially on a budget. Here's a thought for another creature - Volrath the Fallen. He's great for your tapping sideways strategy, and you discard a fatty to him, then scavenge it on to him, etc. Maybe its a bit much to go with, but he would be a nice budget substitute.
+1 from me.

Hey great deck looks awesone. FYI in case you didn't know, Lord of Extinction's ability works while he's in the yard so you could scavenge him for 5 cmc and get a shitload of counters. Also I think Reyhan, Last of the Abzan would do well in your deck.

bushido_man96 imho there is several better options than volrath. Varolz's strategy is completely contrary to what you want to do with volrath (cheap high power creatures vs super expensive ones... That you have to scavenge again). At first glance the deck still lacks card draw so you can more efficiently keep the pressure high after removal

AlexoBn, I see what you are getting at. It wouldn't work as well as I thought.

Nonetheless you might consider Tainted Strike and Hatred they have won me a fair amount of games with varolz in the past

I've always been a fan of Underworld Connections vs Phyrexian Arena, since you can choose when you want to draw the card.
Treetop Scout is a cheaper version of ledgewalker minus the hexproof.
Champion of Lambholt is really good evasion on a cheaper stick, and it gets bigger over time. Primordial Hydra is good, but does it make it's presence known a lot? It doesn't get much use on Varolz because it's so tiny in the yard.
I know Diabolic Tutor isn't as good as demonic, but it gives you yet another tutor. Embalmer's Tools from Amonkhet makes scavenge costs less.
I like the deck!

Have you thought about Eternal Scourge? You can cast him from exile, sac him to regen varolz and scavenge him from the yard to recast him fron exile, repeat as needed...I know he's not a big dude but i feel he could work very well with the general mecanic of the deck.

Maybe necrogenesis could be a budget sub for S. ooze? It won't screw with your mana curve and the saprolings can even fuel regenerate on varolz.

Is Maelstrom Pulse really worth running in Commander?

Squirrel_of_War says... #19
If you have the card, yes. It's an amazing card and it can deal with a token swarm or if an opponent has a nasty creature out and another opponent Clones it then it can deal with both or even better if someone kicks Rite of Replication you aren't totally screwed. But if you don't already have the card its not worth the price tag when there are so many cards that can still be good in the slot. You could always run cards that do similar things like Sever the Bloodline but I like the versatility of being able to get rid of an enchantment or artifact that is troubling me since that is often blacks biggest issue.

This list looks utterly fantastic, man! Looking forward to what it may look like post-hiatus. What are you using the meantime?

Thanks theilluminaire! Right now I'm using my Meren deck instead of this one.

This one might get put back together soon though since there are just so many meren decks and I'm getting a little tired of full on graveyard strategy. One of my other main decks is all about the graveyard,

If you're sick of the graveyard strategy, go the opposite with Anafenza, the Foremost. From one extreme to the other. I hope I never see her; she would wreck several of my decks.

I'm not necessarily sick of it I just have multiple decks that are gung-ho on the graveyard and my playgroup all run hate mainboard. :/

I have recently made your deck here and I am enjoying it so far. Although I feel that I am not playing it to it's full potential and I was wondering if you could answer a few questions.
What would be an average hand you would keep or Mulligan for?
Is it optimal to cast Varolz right away? (From my testing so far, it isn't)
When tutoring for cards, what cards get priority over the others? (For both scavenging and wincons)

@LeeRoy_Jenkiins: I'm glad you're enjoying the deck.
As far as opening hands go I'm not too picky. I'll keep pretty much any hand with 2 or more lands
I only cast Varolz if there is either something to scavenge in the yard or some means of protecting him such as a creature to sac to regenerate him or Swiftfoot Boots.
When tutoring I'm going to look for whatever answer is needed based on the board state. Another good option is getting a card that will help secure the win such as Not of This World to counter removal or Rogues Passage to get your guys through.
I hope I was able to help, let me know if you have any more questions, I'm always happy to answer.
