This is a deck that I've been toying with for a while. I like a lot of the aspects of Flicker, but have never really had a chance to play around with it. So I'll go into a little break down of what I have so far. There are two infinite mana combos in the deck, which can lead to two different forms of kills. Devil's Play for infinite, or Increasing Confusion for infinite.
Acidic Slime - One of the soulbound targets of the Deadeye Navigator. The repeatable land destruction, artifact hate, and disenchantment is awesome. Not to mention a deathtouch creature for blocking. Perfect mid to late game closer.
Axebane Guardian - One half of the first infinite mana combos in this deck. Because there are plenty of defenders in this deck, the Guardian can produce lots of mana per tap. Once soulbound with the
Galvanic Alchemist
, as long as there at least 3 other defenders on the field, then you can produce infinite mana loop.
Deadeye Navigator - Soulbound blinker. Has lots of possible targets, inclugins Acidic Slime,
Elvish Visionary
,
Gatecreeper Vine
, Thragtusk, and of course Zealous Conscripts. Each soulbound partner has a different effect for the play of the game.
Doorkeeper
- Another Defender for the deck. Also adding the mill effect to put some pressure on my opponent. This can work as a second target for the
Galvanic Alchemist
, Though it would require 9 mana to tap, untap, and then tap again, which would be very expensive without a mana combo on the field.
Elvish Visionary
- Flickerable card draw for onle one blue mana and one colorless. Also something that can be played early in the game to stop fast RDW for dealing to much damage early on.
Fog Bank - Defender for the Axebane Guardian and combat damage negator. Very helpful early on.
Galvanic Alchemist
- Second half of the first infinite mana combo. While it only works well with the Axebane Guardian (and possibly
Doorkeeper
) in this deck, it still is a helpful wall at 1/4. (I know it doesn't have defender).
Gatecreeper Vine
- Another Defender for the mana combo. But if I do pair this with a Navigator, he's a deck thinner. And I can be sure to get at least one mana per turn if I don't have of of the two combos running.
guilded lotus
- First part of the second infinite mana combo. I was shown this earlier by a friend (Rookie) but it works by flickering a Zealous Conscripts into play from the Navigator effect and targeting the Guilded Lotus., untapping it. Tap the lotus for another 3 mana, and reactivate the flicker. Rinse and repeat to desired mana amount. Also great for turn 5+ mana excel.
Increasing Confusion - Finisher card. If there is an infinite mana combo running it could be game over. If it get's countered (hopefully not exiled), then it can still go off with the flashback.
Ludevic's Test Subject
- This is actually a great card for this deck. On one side, another defender. Early game it can defend against pesky attacks and slowly (when I can) get counters on it. Late in the game, or as soon as a mana combo activates, it transforms into a 13/13 beast and causes all kinds of hell on the field!
Thragtusk - The best possible target for the Deadeye Navigator to soulbound with. As people say Thragtusk is nothing but value, in a flicker deck it is nothing but repeatable value then. Life gain and token generation.
Tree of Redemption
- Another defender for the combo. Honestly this is a cutable card for something with a lower CMC. The life switch is helpful if I get low early in the game. When paired with the Deadeye Navigator then it could be used to maintain life at 13 but nothing more really.
Zealous Conscripts - The second part of the second mana combo. See the
guilded lotus
description above for the general idea. Also just a plain awesome card with infinite flickers going on. Late game this guys just says "I like your field (or anything that doesn't have hexproof), and I'll be taking control of it for this turn'. Also pretty fun to take everything ( and I do mean everything) on an opponents turn and then wait for them to scoop.
Sideboard
Ancient Grudge - Low cost artifact hate. Repeatable with the mana base I have set up. Helpful right now for almost any deck that has keyrunes and Chromatic Lanterns.
Elixir of Immortality - Life gain and graveyard reshuffle. Meant to be used against Mill and aggro decks.
Grafdigger's Cage - Used against zombies really. This might be switched to Ground Seal, if only to give me the card draw. But Then Zombies would still be effective. The cage does stop some of my kill spells from being cast from the graveyard though, so I may need to find a different anti-graveyard card.
Jace, Memory Adept - Only Planeswalker that I though would be helpful. Milling and card draw, or straight milling. Might put Garruk, Primal Hunter in but not really liking the feel of him.
Mizzium Skin
- Instant speed hexproof. For kill spells and other targeted abilities.
Plummet
- Anti Air. Screw you Thundermaw Hellkite !!
Sheltering Word
- Another instant speed hexproof for my creatures. Life gain is helpful too but the higher CMC might mean I cut it for more Mizzium Skin
Witchbane Orb - Personal Hexproof. Helpful for those silly cards like
Bonfire of the Damned
that everyone, and their siblings, seem to be running.
I'll gladly take any suggestions for this deck. It is far from perfect and no where near the FNM quality that I want it to be at. I'm a little worried about creature protection early in the game, not to mention the speed at which the deck takes off . Any help is appreciated!!
IMPORTANT:
I am heavily basing this deck off of others I have seen here on Tappedout. Because I have been using many, I can't give credit to one person or deck. It is similar to lots of the standard R/U/G decks that are out there. Ill make the list later but I'm not taking sole credit for this idea of deck. Thank you!
