Paper Pauper No-Red Monarch Ramp? Yeah, I think so, sure.
Growth/No-Red/Witch-Maw + Monarch + Evasion = Oops, I'm the Monarch again.

Ramp and mana-fix until you can cast all the best and coolest Monarch-related cards in pauper.

  • You need and in the first few turns to get you started. Once you get into the midgame you'll want and . Keep this in mind when deciding whether to mulligan or not.
  • Elvish Mystic helps you get a little ramp going. Meanwhile Prophetic Prism is useful early on for color-fixing, and later in the game for simple card draw.
  • All the cards that actually make you the Monarch have higher CMCs than all the cards that benefit from you being the Monarch. Go figure. For that reason, next up is Throne Warden, followed by Garrulous Sycophant. Both of these creatures squeeze some extra value out of being the Monarch, albeit in totally different ways.
  • Now that you have more mana, you can start actually making yourself the Monarch. Thorn of the Black Rose and the infamous Azure Fleet Admiral will help you take command of your destiny and start ruling like a boss. The former has deathtouch and big ass, making it a tremendous blocker, if not straight-up combat-deterrent. The latter of course can't be blocked by the Monarch, meaning it can pretty much always get me the Monarchy back if I lose it.
  • Beyond that, there's Entourage of Trest, which can block TWO creatures at once if you're the Monarch. It also has a decently high power, so it also is a great blocker.
  • The final creature included is Mist-Cloaked Herald, which is just another way to maintain/regain the Monarchy.
  • Humble and Prey Upon are my removal for now, until I think of something better. Feel free to suggest whatever you think would work well. They can be used alone when necessary, or in conjunction for greater effect.
  • There's not much of a win condition here, besides lose-one-gain-one with Garrulous Sycophant or beatdowns with Throne Warden and/or Entourage of Trest. Suggestions would also be helpful here.

Now you see the violence inherent in the system!
