- Battle song of the Knights of Arcades, Elder Dragon War

(Song) Dream Evil - The Chosen Ones

Welcome to my working draft of the mighty Arcades, the Strategist!

I had a defender Tiny Leaders deck (lol) collecting dust, so jumped at the chance to transition from Abzan to Bant!

At the time of posting this (21/7/18) i am attempting a balanced build that can win with EITHER combat damage or combos. Right now I'm wondering what deadwood cards i should cut back on to add a small suite of combat tricks such as Tower Defense etc. I will expand this description over time.

The deck is heavily reliant upon Arcades, the Strategist being in play to establish its card draw engine, at which point you can either go for a big swing or combo out.

WINNING: Create infinite mana/kelp tokens/card draw via Axebane Guardian + Wall of Kelp and Intruder Alarm to play a huge Walking Ballista. Jeskai Barricade and Cloudstone Curio also provide much needed flexibility and combo potential! Killing with combat damage is aided by Triumph of the Hordes. Another option is to establish a bounce loop with Wall of Resurgence to create a huge manland; with Darksteel Citadel providing a handsome target. That's right, if all else fails Arcades will drop his whole citadel on you!

Advice, suggestions and shared experiences would be most welcome!

The maiden of voyage of Arcades at FNM was one to remember!

GAME 1: Captain Sisay vs Kruphix, God of Horizons vs Arcades, the Strategist

A fast starting hand with threats and Aluren allowed me to swing in for lethal on the Kruphix player, who was rapidly moving toward one of his many infinite mana combos. Defeating Sisay was a grind, a cat and mouse advantage game of trying to outmaneuver his tutored threats. Drawing into Rhystic Study got me far enough ahead to secure a win with Arcades Commander damage!

My main observation from the game was that that this deck can really change gears on your opponents, i went from full aggro early game, to a controlling finish.

GAME 2: Bruna, Light of Alabaster vs Sai, Master Thopterist vs Arcades, the Strategist

This three man pod saw Arcades take on two of the best players at the store, who both established terrifying board states quite quickly. Facing down a massive voltron Bruna with a Eldrazi Conscription attached, and a massive field of thopters with a pile of deadly artifacts ready to equip.. i knew i maybe one or two turns to survive. I managed to assemble the Intruder Alarm + Axebane Guardian + Wall of Kelp combo to draw my deck and make infinite mana... i played Walking Ballista and shot them up. A nerve wracking win but a fun one.

This game showed me that in a situation where i am heavily outmatched, i need never be outgunned ;-) Walking Ballista is the MVP.
