don't forget, you can discard land cards with that Wild Guess . as you only need 4 to play this deck.

Thank you, that's part of the reason they're in there. Same as Hammer of Purphoros . I'm on my way to FNM so we'll see how this deck does... I'm a bit nervous as I feel it might be too vulnerable to certain strategies or more expensive decks but we'll see.

i am using that hammer for my Gruul deck with a Kalonian hydra. i like it, especially when i get mana flooded, cause it keeps me in the game with nothing else on board.

I wouldn't run 4 purphoros this being aggro and him being a legendary I feel top decking this guy would be lethal to you. I would suggest 2 or 3 but no more. And I would change spark jolt to more shock and lighting strike. The scry from magma jet is more then enough to not need it. But it doesn't look to bad +1

Check out Lightning Volley . If you can flood with 1/1s then they don't need to get through.

I'm looking forward to adding Lightning Volley , thank you for the suggestion.

I tend to agree about 3 x Purphoros, God of the Forge . It works out if I'm using Scry so much and Wild Guess but if I drop Purphoros and Spark Jolt my need to Scry does diminish slightly, so it's a tough call. I will take a look at it.

Think about the new Satyr Firedancer . It doubles up on all your burn and provides removal.

you need Mizzium Mortars for removal. your quick ones are great, but mizzium kills most of the big stuff.

Mizzium Mortars is a great include, but just a bit expensive (in real dollars) for me to buy for what I feel like I'd get out of it right now. I'll see how this plays and then decide if I absolutely need it.

Satyr Firedancer would be another great include but I'm worried about what I'd replace. As of now it looks like I would chop Blistercoil Weird and add two of the Firedancers. Losing a little bit of speed might not hurt too bad with all the early burn I have.

The problem that I see is that your win condition is too slow for a burn deck. If you're not swinging or casting for lethal by turn 5 you're going to have serious problems against anything with any form of control. It's possible to do that with this combo, but it won't be a common situation.

I tried to use Guttersnipe in my Boros heroic deck for a while (here: Boros Heroic Surprise) but found it much too slow to be terribly useful and ended up removing it for more heroic aggro. I know your concept is much different than mine but I think it needs to be faster, or have more board control.

Just my two cents.

Interesting points. What would help speed it up? Replacing Guttersnipe with Satyr Firedancer , for one? Cutting Ogre Battledriver and adding more burn spells? Mizzium Mortars could certainly help with board control.

I guess I would clarify the goal of the deck. Mono-red doesn't have much interaction with other players spells, though it's great at burning down any creatures that hit the board. By investing in pure red, you're declaring that you think you can burn your opponent to the ground before their deck gets rolling. 17 creatures is an awful lot of investment for a burn deck, and there's a lot of card synergy required to make these combos work well. Purphoros, God of the Forge and Young Pyromancer have good synergy. But by the time you play both and have mana available to cast anything, your opponent has more than enough mana to Revoke Existence , Hero's Downfall , or even just Magma Jet your guys right back. The other problem is your lack of protection. If they want to zap your guy, you can't really do anything about it, your guy dies.

The way I've seen burn decks working at FNM is to just Skullcrack , Lightning Strike , Shock , and Magma Jet your opponents into dust. It's a lot harder with the current set of standard-legal burn spells, but if that's the goal of the deck, it can work. For an instant-based standard-legal burn style deck, I'd recommend checking out the heroic mechanic, or adding another color. Cards like Labyrinth Champion can push out more damage with minimal synergistic requirements, and if you add another color you can protect your investment better with spells like Gods Willing or Mortal's Resolve or Boros Charm (indestructible OR a heroic-enabling double strike buff OR just 4 more flat burn damage, I highly recommend this guy in any burn deck if you can make the mana work).

Ooh, here's another that I found that looks like just what you're going for: Burninate the Countryside (not mine, just saw it and it looks like your style)
