Hey Shaper, adding Squee and entomb seems like an interesting change, and obviously another line of play for a wincon. How does the 1rr effect the mana base? as at the moment it is built for BUG with a pinch of white. Is there enough any colour generation to make it easy to get around? or is there an inclusion of some red shocks and duals for Squee? Either way turning on the red fetches in scalding tarn and arid mesa isn't a bad thing.

cpantaleoz: you're only casting Squee once you have food chain in play, which produces mana of any colour. So you just have to eat a dork with chain to kick-start the combo.

enpc: now that you mention that changing the mana base effects nothing. I substituted in a Temple Garden, Hallowed Fountain, Blood crypt, Steam Vents and Stomping Ground. I was unable to trade into the dual lands and a Time Twister so I had to fall back on shock lands and a Wind Fall. I figured that red + B or U or G was a good option to balance out the colours and the available fetchable lands in the mean time. Are there better options for me or does it sound like a viable option in the mean time?

ShaperSavant Why did you choose delay over counterspell?

Jokereon 1U is a much more flexible cost than UU. It's also long enough that the game might be over by the end, or the table will have another way to deal with it by then.

Thanks for the deck and primer. I have build this deck myself, have all the components except Imperial Seal and Timetwister, still trying to find one.

Just wondering what would be the best substitute for it, am considering either Sterling Grove or Drift of Phantasms for now. Which is better? Maybe both of them in place of the two cards above. Or should I use Windfall in place of Timetwister?

Also how about Zur the Enchanter to search for Food Chain or Necropotence, I'm guessing its not included because the mana cost is too high.

For the mana base, I tried replacing basic Forest with Taiga but then feel the basic forest is better. There was one occasion where I cannot find the red mana to cast Fire Covenant in time though but otherwise it was okay.

Since this deck is often able to produce G,U and B consistently, I am considering replacing Tundra with Scrubland, as triple black is important if Necropotence is needed early somehow. Not sure if it is a good idea though?

Would love to hear your opinion. Thanks in advance.

lynden Squee and Entomb are going in on Dominaria release, so maybe you could replace with those? I like replacing Timetwister with Windfall for budget. Otherwise, Scrubland (as an additional land), Sterling Grove, and Misdirection seem like the best picks to me. I wouldn't play Scrubland over Tundra personally, as the BW fetch happens a lot less than the UW fetch, and passively having blue up is more attractive. Fire Covenant isn't worth playing red fetchables for. Zur is actually very mana demanding. I think he's fine, but rather slow and opens the deck up to single-target removal in ways we're otherwise not really vulnerable to.

Thanks ShaperSavant for your input, yeah I think I will include Squee and Entomb as you suggested. I will leave Gilded Drake in first.

Will definitely consider your suggestions of Scrubland, Sterling Grove and Misdirection as possible inclusions/flex spots depending on meta.

Much appreciated and best wishes to you, thanks for the primer and wonderful deck :)

ShaperSavant So with the full spoiler out for Dominaria, what would you change for the 1000 deck? I know Squee and Entomb are going in, but what's coming out, and was there anything else you saw that you'd put in?

Hey! :)

What are your thoughts on Urborg? I mean, i'll try It over Bayou cause It hasn't arrived yet, and i'd say it's good fixing, also maybe with Forest in play and back to basics, you can still tutor with it.

Btw, I was using 1 more land than this list cause i don't have Hierarch, what do you think about It? What would you change over Hierarch? :X (still waiting for her reprint)

Urborg is fine, but generally we want to prioritize early self-sufficient multi-color sources over bulk mana or color fixing. It does help play out Necro/Naus and whatnot. It's also not fantastic that it fixes our opponents. I think it's squarely okay -- weigh it against Temple Garden or Blooming Marsh. Another land is a reasonable add for Noble Hierarch. You could also consider a 2 mana dork like Priest of Titania, Harabaz Druid, or Bloom Tender.

ShaperSavant I'm practicing for a tournament to win the Commander Anthology box. I have all but 5 cards listed below with cards I plan to substitute. Would you give me your opinion on the substitutes or better choices??

Imperial Seal >> Diabolic Intent

Noble Hierarch >> Drover of the Mighty

Dark Confidant >> Phyrexian Arena

Timetwister >> Windfall

Yawgmoth's Will >> Magus of the Will

ShaperSavant not a great mind here, but any reason for not running Arcane Adaptation to run the combo independently of Tazri?

June 3, 2018 11:16 p.m.

ShaperSavant says... #19

WalkingDreads

The short answer is that besides being an outlet, all it does is turn Tazri into a crazy expensive tutor (6UW invested for 1 tutor). There aren't a ton of ways to steal Tazri if you're careful about not putting her at risk of being stolen on board. If something were to happen, you can also take Laboratory Maniac lines or remove her and recast from command zone.

What do you think about Spellseeker in the deck?

It can serve as a tutor for every piece of interaction, tutor or recursion and, afterwards, it can serve as a ritual. More specificaly, it can fetch anything, save for Timetwister (or any other "Wheel" alternative), Yawgmoth's Will, Force of Will and Fire Covenant (or Toxic Deluge). Is also Worldly Tutorable.

Worse at face value than Grim Tutor, which gets FC.

Grim is the bar any tutor needs to compete with, as it's not good enough.

Given the new addition of Squee, the Immortal and with the high concentration of X/1 creatures in the deck, how would Skullclamp rate as card draw? Yes, you would be potentially tading your dorks for cards, however being able to turn a spare dork into 2 cards midgame when you're generating sufficient mana from other sources doesn't seem bad. But I guess it comes down to how tightly the deck plays to available mana.
