Hi guys, I printed out the core set + rules and I have a question about the rules. Are bounties open information? Do you draw a bounty and keep it hidden? Does it depend on the type of bounty?

Nope bounties aint hidden. We experimented with having them hidden but it increased the complexity unnecessarily

After printing out the core set and rules I have played a game of Commander Adventures with 3 different playgroups. While I think it was a great refresher, none of those playgroups ever wanted to play a second game of commander adventures.
I personally think that CA is the bee's knees, but I cannot seem to convince anyone else of the same? Any recommendations for the very first game to get people hooked?

Hi Boza,
thanks for playing! I know why that may be.
The Core game was our first shot at this new variant and it had some downsides like being sometimes a bit too specific with its objectives or being too "optional" so that some players never aimed to complete quests.
We solved that problem with the D&D and Ignition expansions. There are many more objectives that can be completed by any deck and we have more cards like encounters, planes, archenemy roles and occurrences that affect players directly and require their involvment to progress.
I advice to get the D&D and Ignition xpacks printed and try again. The experience will be way better, that I promise :)
I found that just playing the planar deck from the Ignition expansion is a good icebreaker for playgroups. Just play a regular planechase game with the planar cards we created.
After that players may want to add the quest-system layer where they have to earn the planechaser-role first or other aspects of Commander Adventures.
Hope that helps.

Can you or any of your fans recommend a good online print shop for this project? I note in the download/print instructions it mentions there have been some problems with certain online printers. If there were a couple that could be recommended based on either your team or your fans experiences that might help get this project into more play groups

@Metachemist I used The Game Crafter for mine and it came out for just under $40 USD. I got the main game, the two expansions, legacies and roles, and all the tokens

@CommanderAdventures I am still working on the box. I sent you an email asking for the new symbol from The Bard's Song.

Hey CommanderAdventures,
I've been thinking of reformatting the old plane and scheme cards to the Commander Adventures size and frame in addition to adding a revelation bounty to turn the game into a classic archenemy game. Do you think doing this would fit the theme of this format? I came up with this idea after attempting to combine CA planes with Planechase planes. If I do this I will have the cards printed when I get the next couple of expansions printed.

Hi tybonel13,
you may try it. If you want to design your own revelations you can do so with our template. Haven't tried to implement the existing Archenemy into CA.
For planechase I already added the most fun plane-mechanics in Ignition and improved some of them. Don't think that its worth to print out the official planes too.

Would it be possible to use the Sliver / Boss Encounters from the Ignition Expansion without having to use the planechase part similar to what you did with the Emrakul and Nicol Bolas encounters from the D&D Expansion? :)

Hi Penguno,
feel free to try it :)
Designed it to come up midgame power-wise.
But you can shuffle the Plane into the Bounty deck or sth like that if you want to or have it get into play at a given turn (Turn 2 / 3) so people can prepare for it. (Similar to Horde Magic)

This is awesome! It's like a whole different play-style, it reminds me of some deck building games that have similar mechanics! Definitely a breath of fresh air for people who want something new.
Question, how much is the cost of printing for the set? Are there different sets/expansions or is it just one big pack? Also, is there still room for custom cards? (Can people make their own adventure cards?)
Thanks for making this, it definitely gives me the will to stay with my commander deck more instead of trading it for standard. :)

Hey NeoHikamaru,
thanks for the feedback! Appreciate it.
The printing costs depend on where you live and the quality the print service offers.
I heard from people getting the whole game incl. xpacks printed for 30 bucks and while I myself paid around 70 bucks per playset + 20 bucks shipping. Local shops like staples should be able to print these for a good price-quality ratio.
Right now we have the main game and 2 expansions "Dungeons & Dragons" and "Ignition" that I highly recommend to add since we managed to remove some flaws we found when playing only the main game.
Besides that we created to Variations "Conspiracy" and "Legacy of the Paruns" that can be played together with CA or just on their own.
And yes, we have a photoshop template for people who want to create their own Adventure cards! Feel free to use it: Write your own Adventures!

Hello,
I have a question regarding encounters: - In your youtube video you talk about how if there is an encounter in the quest zone players cannot win the game. However, in the rules there is no wording about this. Is this an oversight, or did the rules change after the video?
With kind regards,
Ambroth

Hey ambroth,
we left this rule out since it depends on your playgroup if you want to go with it. (Yeah the video is quiet outdated at this point)
As for my playgroup, we still use this rule to push encounters relevance. As mentioned above CA is a sandbox variant. Feel free to come up with own rules :)

I’m so excited to try this! I already designed a deck just for this! Bounty Hunters

Hello CommanderAdventures,
Thanks for answering my question.
After playing a game of commander adventures (Loved it) we had another question on how best to proceed:
- When encountering an encounter from the bounty deck, where does it go?
Follow up questions:
- After defeating a encounter from the quest deck, do you draw an additional quest card (same question for the bounty encounter)?
With kind regards,
Ambroth

@ambroth glad you liked it so far! Feel free to share your stories and experience! :)
Gameplay questions are answered on the Quick Rules #2 card.
When encountering an encounter from the bounty deck, where does it go?
Cards that have “bounty” in their card type are assigned to the player who draws them and are considered personal. Each other card is put into the quest log zone. - Therefore all encounters, even those from the bounty deck go into the quest log zone. (Well except "Bounty Encounters" - but there arent any yet haha)
After defeating a encounter from the quest deck, do you draw an additional quest card (same question for the bounty encounter)?
-
The player who completes an objective from the quest deck first, claims its reward, draws a new card from the quest deck and draws a card from the bounty deck (See Quick Rules #7 for multiple completion triggers.)
-
Players only draw from the bounty deck for completing objectives from the quest deck. (This includes cards from the quest deck that don’t have “quest” in their type.) - So yes for quest-deck-encounter and no for bounty-deck-encounter.
It overall matters alot from where the cards come (quest deck, bounty deck etc.), hence we put watermarks on all of them, so you have an easy time identifying which are from the quest deck and which from the bounty deck.

I'm really glad you made the Essentials expansion. I've felt the commons needed more variety. Waiting on my prints from PrinterStudio so I can test this and Ignition out.

Hey King_of_Hoboz,
thanks for the feedback. Yeah after testing alot this was definitely one of the highest priorities to improve CA upon.
If you have any other ideas how we can optimize this game let me know :)
Happy gaming and happy holidays!

First of all I can't stress how amazed my playgroup was at both the quality and depth of these cards. The different card types, rules, triggers, and interactions are really well thought out. My group really liked the spice it added to the game, and we really only had two comments.
-
We printed out a rule card sheet for everyone, but there was still a fairly steep learning curve to getting through the rules, interactions, and general setup. We thought a more detailed instruction / setup guide in maybe a PDF format would really help people new to your Adventures.
-
Is there a symbol or line on the face of the cards that states what pile the card goes in? (i.e. quest, bounty, planes, etc.) This could simply be my group failing, but it caused some confusion. I know the backs of the cards do have a symbol. Our problem was that we only printed the face of the cards, and then sleeved them with a token or land to give them a better feel and for shuffling ease. We fixed our issue by putting each type into a different colored sleeve.
You have done an amazing job. Thank you for putting this all together.

Hey Lunnarius,
thanks for the feedback.
-
Working on a new video series that should make learning this game easier right now. We once had a PDF file but I converted it into the quick rule cards. Will try to write a new text-format rule book before weekend and upload it here.
-
The front sides of these cards have the same watermarks as their backsides ("!" = Quest; Chest = Bounty; D20 = Archenemy; Chaos-Symbol = Planar; Mask = Conspiracy Role etc.) So you can easily distinguish them if your Printer got them right. (Compare to our previews) Most ppl use sleeves of different color to save time as you mentioned for the card-backs.
Hope this helps. :)

Thank you for the quick response! Sounds great on item 1. That is totally our bad on item 2. I can't believe that 4 people looking at cards we knew to be in different piles didn't notice the watermark lol. The watermark is really faint on our set, but I think that is due to the printer more than anything. Thank you again.
