U/B Proliferation Mechanic. Open to any and all ideas, suggestions, and criticisms.
This deck mainly uses the proliferation mechanic to forcibly add poison counters without engaging in battle or at least very little of it. In order to beat our opponent we first have to infect them. The quicker we can get that first poison counter, the better off we are in using our spells to finish off the job.
The quickest way to start things off is by using
Virulent Wound
on one of their early starters. It doesn't matter if it takes 1, 2, or even 3 of these to take out your opponents first creature (remember, they lose after 10 poison counters). The important thing is ensuring that they have a poison counter by at least turn 2 or 3.
Our other early aid comes in the form of Plague Stinger and Blight Agent. They both are difficult to block in the early game as they have flying or are unblockable, respectively. These two creatures should be able to grant you at least one or two poison counters without engaging the enemy's creatures. Finally we have these ugly ass Ichor Rats that will GUARANTEE a poison counter as soon as they hit the board. If you haven't infected your host yet, it's your duel to lose.
While we are building mana with the help of our 2 myrs Leaden Myr and Silver Myr, we need to be able to defend ourselves from threats. Since our deck focuses a lot on Sorceries and Artifacts, we need to be able to put something on the field that can stall our opponent. This is where our walls come in.
Featured here are Hover Barrier because of it's flying ability and just awesome stoutness. We also have Steel Wall and
Wall of Spears
to increase our artifact count. In total we have four walls to give ourselves time to prepare. There are also Mana Leaks,
Corrupted Resolve
s and Doom Blades to throw off our opponents.
Next there are a few cards that give us some draw power and even proliferate. The first are fairly simple, just Preordain and Ponder. A key card in this deck however is Tezzeret's Gambit. We knock out two birds with one stone by drawing cards and giving our opponent a poison counter. Easily a focal point in this deck, and I recommend just forking over the 2 life to cast it for 3 rather than 4 mana.
Now comes the meat of the deck: the remaining artifacts and sorceries.
Core Prowler
plays an effective role in our strategy. If we can get him on and off the battlefield, we'll be handing out poison counters for days. Combine it with Mortarpod, or Throne of Geth and we should easily be up to 5 or 6 counters in no time. Or imprint
Core Prowler
to your Mimic Vat and keep saccing it with the Throne. Remember our ugly Ichor Rats? They become even uglier once you've imprinted one to the Vat.
Our 4x Throne of Geth is also still around to hand out more poison. We can use them to sac the cheap artifacts littered throughout the deck. Got an extra Ornithopter still floating around? Cancel it's flight. That Brittle Effigy? Put in on the throne. Done with those artifact lands? Seat them down. Forgot about that Everflowing Chalice? Seat it. Is your life at 50 already? Seat those
Golem's Heart
s. There's a Wurmcoil Engine on the loose? Tell it to have a seat then imprint it to the vat and then seat it's babies.
Once we get to the mid game, we have two cards that will help seal the deal. Inexorable Tide and Corrupted Conscience. Any spell we cast is going to allow us to add a poison counter with the tide. If we have both on the field that's at least 2 counters per turn if you still have Ornithopters or 1 drop artifacts at your disposal. Towards the end of the game in case all else has failed we can rob our opponent of their more impressive creatures with Corrupted Conscience and just use them to win.
All in all, a fun deck, and nothing too serious. A mechanic I've come to enjoy, hopefully you can have fun with poison as well. Once again, Open to any and all ideas, suggestions, and criticisms. Thanks!
