Frenemies? (Extricator of Sin/Flesh PDH)

Pauper EDH Delirium Eldrazi Humans Mono-White

Jerenstein-Bear

This commander was love at first sight, and the build proved to be a lot of fun as well with a great deal of directions available to go in. The deck is built first around its theme and second around mechanical viability, so keep that in mind.

War has come to the realms of man. Heretic monstrosities from beyond space and time assail humanity's defenses from without and within, and there seems little hope that those defenses may yet stand for long. When yet more foes join the fray and war becomes apocalypse, the fate of the world no longer hinges on the defeat of the eldrazi, but in cooperation. Vile cultists crawled from the bowels of the realm's cities and towns, ready to utilize their eldritch power alongside holy men clothed in the regalia of gods dedicated to light and justice. How far would you be willing to go for your people? Would you die? Kill? Or something far worse still...

This deck has a few paths it may take to securing a victory, most notably through the use of eldrazi, either card or token.

  • Ramp! This deck has a ton of ways to keep your land drops consistent and your pool flush with mana. You'll need as much as you can get to cycle, create tokens, cast your big bois, and use creature abilities as much as possible so this is something I payed special attention to.

  • Build an Army! Your main goal is to transform your commander and start pumping out tokens. In order to facilitate the delirium requirement you'll be utilizing cycling effects from cards like Forsake the Worldly to put cards in the graveyard and get a draw, discard effects from cards like Thraben Standard Bearer, artifacts that explode themselves such as Origin Spellbomb, and lands that crack for other lands such as Ash Barrens (which also thin the deck out a make it ever so slightly more likely you'll see more important cards). Once you do that, you're free to start throwing out 3/2 eldrazi tokens, but unfortunately only one per turn...unless you untap yourself and do it again with creatures like Tenth District Veteran or spells like Light the Way. A 3/2 eldrazi per turn might not be much, but two? Three??? Then perhaps we're on to something.

  • Annihilate! If you don't straight up win with your tokens, then you'll stall long enough to start seeing your stronger eldrazi hit the field. Not only will you have plenty of land consistency and mana rocks to make this happen fairly quickly given proper focus, but you'll have cards like Breath of Life and False Defeat in order to put those monsters directly onto the battlefield after you discard or mill them with Ghoulcaller's Bell. FAIR WARNING: False Defeat is ~$20 at the time of writing, so if you're not tryna spend real card money on pauper then I'd consider replacing it with something else.
