Frog Delver

Modern UBRG

DeepShadow

Sideboard

I'm playing with the idea of a modern delver deck that is inspired by an old legacy BUG delver deck that I used to constantly playtest my deck ideas against (the delver deck would win every time). I'm no professional, so most of what I'm doing is spitballing.

That said, I'd like to share what I think this deck is trying to do...

The main goal is to get a delver of secrets out, back it up with a big body, and counter/discard anything else your opponent tries to do. This strategy often causes combo decks to become dysfunctional if you know how they work. It basically requires knowing how to play the entire meta perfectly. That said, if you can, you leave the main competition to be one over low mana resource creatures that you use to put a fast and aggressive clock on your opponent.

I added a few things that are more reminiscent of style than of professional competition, but I do think that cards like Arclight Phoenix have a place in this deck, since modern does permit the free casting cost spells Noxious Revival and Gut Shot, both of which are completely respectable in any deck, in my humble opinion.

If you happen upon this deck and you think it's cool, even if not professionally competitive, I'd love to hear what you think of it. There's something about it for me that just feels fun to play, and it's a throwback to something that I personally love, which is always a plus.
