I enjoy making decks with a strong theme so I decided to try to make a deck for a less-than-perfect tribe, the frogs. I originally created it as a Legacy deck with older cards like Spore Frog, but I realized this deck would stand even less of a chance in Legacy than it does in Modern.
There's some possible synergy in this deck. Turn to Frog or the Omnibian's ability could be used on an Indestructible creature followed by Rapid Hybridization to replace it, or if the enemy has a powerful creature with either Shroud or Hexproof Polymorphist's Jest would remove that ability, opening up a chance to hit it with Rapid Hybridization. Finally, the Species Gorgers can bounce themselves late game to buff the Crocanuras.
Monstrify and the Plaxcaster Froglings can be used to buff the rest of the creatures. The Haze Frogs can be used to avoid a lot of damage to someone using this deck and finally the Frilled Sandwallas were added to bring down the high average converted mana cost and to give another way to use mana later in the game.
If I decided to use the cards in the maybe-board, I would probably swap out two Haze Frogs for Yargle, Glutton of Urborg and replace as many of the basic lands as I would be comfortable with. These cards are only in the maybe-board because I believe Yargle, Glutton of Urborg is not allowed in the Modern format, but if the people you are playing with are okay with this card being used then it is a perfect addition to this deck.
While I didn't intend for this deck to be competitive, I'd still be more than happy to take any suggestions anyone might have! As of the time of writing, I haven't actually tested this deck but I plan on doing so soon! I am considering removing a couple of the Haze Frogs to add more Species Gorgers (though if Yargle, Glutton of Urborg is being used I would likely not do this). I'm also thinking it might be a good idea to get more removal spells to take advantage of this deck's potential but I am not sure what I would remove if I were to do that.
CHANGE LOG
-April 19, 2018: Since he is unfortunately not allowed in the Modern format, I added a couple of copies of the card Yargle, Glutton of Urborg as well as some black mana to cast him to the maybe-board for matches with friends. I'd probably switch out two Haze Frogs for him. Thanks to Muggins84 for the suggestion!
