Maybeboard

Nin-Nin

Based on Satoru Umezawa's first ability, the goal of the deck is simple. Ninjutsu, ninjutsu, ninjutsu. And get some value along the way.

We're running Cazur, Ruthless Stalker   and Ukkima, Stalking Shadow as our ninja commanders for now, as Tatsunari, Toad Rider doesn't really have anything to do with ninjas... :( and Ukkima has some interesting synergies with ninjas.

Ninja Card Advantage

The Great Henge, Guardian Project and Satoru Umezawa are our main ways to get more cards when we ninjutsu.

Some of the evasive creatures to enable the ninjas also draw cards when the ETB or LTB: Baleful Strix, Ice-Fang Coatl, Thalakos Seer

We also (obviously) have our ninja card draw "lords" Yuriko, the Tiger's Shadow, Ingenious Infiltrator and the ninja on probation Grazilaxx, Illithid Scholar

Ninjutsu Enablers

First up, Ukkima, Stalking Shadow! We get to drain someone whenever we use Ukkima as an enabler as it is always unblockable. Also, this is the main reason why Ana Sanctuary is in here.

Birds of Paradise and Gilded Goose are pretty cool enablers. They're both cheap to cast, provide early ramp and can transition to enablers once you have enough mana. The goose also gives food tokens when it ETBs which can potentially give us life if needed.

Faerie Seer is a classic for ninja decks, as it allows us to fix our draws repeatedly.

Valentin, Dean of the Vein   is pretty decent at enabling as well, since he has menace. He's also a very cheap graveyard hate piece.

Fang of Shigeki is cheap and has deathtouch, so hopefully your opponents won't want to block him. Worst case it's a decent blocker/deterrent. And it's a ninja!

Rogue Class can give our ninjas menace, helping them go through.

Champion of Lambholt can get quite big with the multiple ninjutsu, and make it easier for the ninjas to get through

Possible Changes

The interaction/protection suite and mana base is quite flexible. Any kind of interaction is good. Any kind of mana base should be fine.

You can replace the mana dorks with land ramp (ie. Nature's Lore, Three Visits, Rampant Growth, etc.) if you want. This is probably better long term, as it gives you more permanent mana. (Don't forget the deck thinning too /s) I prefer the mana dorks as they enable a ninjutsu or Ukkima on turn 2. They can also be enablers later against the creature light decks.

Extra

Yes, I'm running some sub-optimal cards for the artstyle.

Some people may have noticed the Colossification in the maybeboard... It's just a fun card to put on Ukkima :) It forces someone to do something, or you just 1-shot people with commander damage. And if they do do something to it, you're draining someone for at least 22.

I use the maybe board as cards I'm considering or that I've removed from the deck

FAQ

Why not run Satoru Umezawa or Yuriko, the Tiger's Shadow as commanders? I feel they are a lot stronger by not going ninjutsu. Another big reason is that I don't want to have to deal with explaining that the deck is not too powerful while not revealing that it's a ninjutsu tribal deck upfront. Gotta get those sneak attacks in. (Although with Cazur/Ukkima, you would still need to mention you're not playing Food Chain. Let's hope there's a better sultai ninjutsu-synergy commander in a future set)
