Amonkhet!! —April 14, 2017

There are some amazing amonkhet cards coming out in this set. some are definitely going in, others may or may not, depends on testing.

Please feel free to add card suggestions or to weigh in you opinion on the cards listed below

Combat Celebrant - it hits both CoCo and ascendancy. Exert ability seems like it would end games

Prowling Serpopard - it hits both CoCo and ascendancy. great P/T, good abilities with no draw backs

Rhonas the Indomitable - maybe a 1 of

  • PROS = POWERFUL CARD, hits both CoCo and ascendancy, my creatures should allow it to attack

  • CONS = Legendary creature.

Kefnet the Mindful - Probably not, yes it hits both CoCo & ascendancy. Yes, I plan to draw alot of cards through Temur Ascendancy - but I also plan to play all those cards ASAP, I do not think I can meet the condition of 7 or more cards in hand. BUT I will keep it in mind as a "one of"

Bloodrage Brawler - maybe

  • PROS = great P/T and CMC...

  • CONS = I do not like to discard cards, becomes more of a con with Flameshadow Conjuring.

Exemplar of Strength - maybe

  • PROS = it will trigger CoCo & ascendancy, great P/T and CMC. maybe life gain

  • CONS = three bogus -1/-1 counters.. I don't know how to handle this..

Defiant Greatmaw - maybe

  • PROS = it will trigger CoCo & ascendancy, great P/T and CMC, synergies with Exemplar of Strength

  • CONS = Seems too janky, and I want to avoid having conditioned combo's. Plus I reckon the synergy is pretty crappy

PS - If you have any other suggestions outside of this list. feel free to let me know. I most likely overlooked it or completely missed it. And again, I'd love to hear your opinions, especially if they differ from mine (I acknowledge I am a dumb dumb frequently, and it's the only way that i'll become smrt smrt)

PPS - NOTE: I have not looked at all the spoiled cards, only creatures with CMC 3 or less and power 4 or greater

It's in my commander deck and I love it. Plus it gets around blue/white and their pesky fliers

I like this but I wonder about the interaction between Flameshadow Conjuring and Frost Walker.

Conjuring doesn't target

Bilabrin - Flameshadow Conjuring does not target Frost Walker (i assume that's what you are referring to?), so I can have my cake and eat it too =D

Additionally the copy triggers also Temur Ascendancy, so for & , I have 8 attack points on the bf and draw 2 cards

cheers for the upvote

If you can find room for more fetch lands in your mana base Collected Company will hit much more consistently

Otherwise, this looks really fun

I mean, in flavor magic, a token copy of Frost Walker created by Flameshadow Conjuring should just melt and die, buuuuut...

StankP.I. - Cheers for the suggestion and solid point. I'll look into it.

lanimilbuS - You are right, he must be really, really cool, like 0.01 Kelvin Cool. just cool enough to still be solid for battle, and then melt/evaporate at end of turn.

if that doesn't convince you, then... its magic, magic is stopping it from melting. I am a wizard, If anything doesnt make sense, then a wizard is behind it.

Howzat for flavour!! xD xD

That wouldn't help, would it? Wouldn't it make more sense for it to have a melting point at approximately the temperature of the average flameshadow, so as to remain solid despite being exposed to that temperature while still having a low enough melting point so as to still melt at end of turn? Or maybe the melting point could be higher. Maybe the inevitable disappearance is an inherent feature of flameshadows. Who knows?

I'm a huge fan of Icy Blast in the sideboard of a Temur power deck. Cast it on their turn and you basically get 2 turns to swing away at their life total.

jubale - Solid suggestion! Cheers for that one. It will definitely go in the sideboard

Why Lathnu Hellion? Wont it die in 2 turns?

flintshadowrider - true dat. Once Amonkhet drops I'll bet Combat Celebrant would be do quite well instead

Also, I feel like those Dragonmaster Outcasts might be better as elvish mystics, so you can CoCo a turn earlier

@flintshadowrider - TBH.. Currently my options for creatures with cmc 3 or less and power 4 or greater are slim pickings xD (creatures that meet conditions for BOTH Temur Ascendancy && Collected Company)

Although in saying that, Lathnu Hellion is still an excellent and powerful card. a 4/4 body with haste is tough to deal with. That hasty body will just beat down my opponent until its dead.

Plus it synergies with with all my key cards, (drawing a card when it enters the bf through Temur Ascendancy, additionally Flameshadow Conjuring will give it an extra turn to live (from the token entering the bf)

You will probably notice all of my creatures have both pros and cons to them, Lathnu's con is its short life span..

@ StankP.I. new amonkhet spoilers are insane!! they showing some decent cards that'll slip right in to my deck =D

Things to Note, this is a midrange beast deck, My strategy is to overwhelm my opponents with stampede of creatures. but also protect them from removal.. lil elvish mystic doesnt stampede, lil dragonmaster does =D

Elvish Mystic - I had this card in my deck back when I had this deck in standard format.. The cons vastly outway pros of early CoCo..

  • It is only useful in my opening hand, it was a terrible card to draw after turn 2, Plus a terrible card to hit with CoCo. During these phases I need bigger threats.

  • More importantly, it doesn't trigger Temur Ascendancy

Dragonmaster Outcast - As mentioned above, my card choices are slim pickings, this card is more late game strategy rather than a turn 1 drop, Those 5/5 flying dragons end games. Also it is a good cheap distraction from my other creatures. I rate this card highly and will most likely not remove it unless a better 1 drop comes out.
