From Thelon's gooey garden of horrors...

fungi_from_yuggoth

Bone-chilling horrors from beyond the stars!

Budget so low, it will make you scream in disbelief!

Terrible visions so bizarre, you will gouge your eyes out!

This is [$50] Budget & Theme Deck

These decks are just for casual fun and flavor, that's why they don't have any combos or tons of removal. Because of low powerlevel, Budget/Theme works best when played with other similar decks. Theme decks allow you to play all those wacky cards that you would never use in your normal Commander deck.

  • Deck must have a certain theme.

  • Budget for the deck is $50.

  • No mythic powercreeps or degenerate combos.

  • Decks should be fun to play
    with/against.

  • Flavor beats functionality.

  • Awesome Top-Down design.

This deck is called Fungi from Yuggoth, for which I got inspiration from the works of Howard Phillips Lovecraft. Deck combines two of my favourite creature tribes, fungus and ooze. Or should I say, Mi-Go and shoggoths?

Main theme in the deck is Lovecraftian horror with it's undescribable abominations, otherworldly horrors and weird pallid growth that ought not to see light.

Creature base is made of bubbling oozes, slimy dwellers of the deep tunnels and sentient fungi, nurtured by the deranged druid Thelon. With Thelon's distorted magic, even the smallest of thallids can grow into humongous, towering monstrosities.

Other spells represent decay, withering diseases and noxious fumes from the bogs and marshlands. The very air of the battleground is filled with sickening spores and gases from decaying flora and fauna that will weaken enemy creatures or outright kill them.

Somewhere, in the midst of nameless marshland, lies an accursed place. Humid air is thick from suffocating gasses from the bowels of the earth and the ground is treacherous muck spotted by ponds of still water. Dark and withered trees have tilted and are leaning against one another, soil being watery and unable to carry their weight.

Countless layers of dead, rotting vegetation and wildlife give birth to saprolings and other nameless creatures. Among the decay, young seedlings squirm as they struggle to drag their bulbous bodies to the surface, only to be devoured by feeding thallids. Among twisted trees and everlasting shadows, life and death follow each other, like it has for ages past. Half-rotten corpses of saprolings and myconids start to liquefy and turn into thick, bubbling slime filled with life of it's own. These corpse-born oozes absorb everything they come in touch with and slowly dissolve any trace of life from their surroundings.

In that dark place lives Thelon, lone survivor of Havenwood massacre. It has been many centuries from the onslaught that his creations brought to his people, yet those terrible memories will haunt him forever...

My other projects about things both weird and fantastic:

"Life gives way to death, and death to new life.
Nature feeds upon her own decay."
—Ezrith, druid of the Dark Hours
