My first competative deck, a standard Selesnya aggro with a splash of red for Domri Rade, Boros Reckoner, Mizzium Mortars and Chained to the Rocks. Any feedback would be appreciated.
As of 03/03/14, this deck has stopped its production and will no longer update. Please check out the modern deck that I am currently working on deck: vampiric-devotion-to-devoted-vampires.
One Drops
Elvish Mystics:
Chose this over Experiment One simply because I can get a Loxodon Smiter or Domri Rade out on turn 2, an
Advent of the Wurm
or Polukranos, World Eater on turn 3 or even a monstrous
Fleecemane Lion
on turn 4 saving it from an early Supreme Verdict. Who wouldn't want a 4/4 on turn 2 or a 5/5 trample on turn 3? Your opponent, that's who.
Chained to the Rocks:
One of the strongest removal in standard right now. For only one mana you can exile a creature! This gets past indestructible and cards with annoying abilities like Voice of Resurgence and Xathrid Necromancer.
Two Drops
Voice of Resurgence:
One of the most known card in selesnya. Its affect slows down control by making them do things on their turn, and even if they don't you get a voice token so you still win! Also leaves you with something after a boardwipe like Supreme Verdict.
Fleecemane Lion
:
A 3/3 for 2 mana, monstrous pretty much makes it unkillable. Add in your Elvish Mystic to make it monstrous on turn 4 and you might even be able to save your cat from a turn 4 Supreme Verdict if your on the play.
Mizzium Mortars:
I only run one of these in the mainboard because I rarely need this. This is a good card if I ever run into something like Stormbreath Dragon or Blood Baron of Vizkopa which I rarely do (since they are pro-white,they can be hard to deal with) or if I just need a boardwipe to finish the game. I have two more in the sideboard just in case. Although let's keep in mind while they are pro-white, they are only 4/4 while you have 5/5 green creatures (
Advent of the Wurm
and Polukranos, World Eater).
3 Drops
Boros Reckoner:
The fact that this card can revert damage means you can win trades or simply kill your opponent faster. If your opponent has a 10/10 creature it will definitely make them think twice before attacking into your measly 3/3 Boros Reckoner.
Domri Rade:
His +1 is a great way to get more creatures into your hand, although it won't always work it's still better than nothing. His -2 is a pretty decent way of removal; make one of your opponent's creatures fight with your Boros Reckoner and watch them crumble! If you ever get to his -7 then you pretty much win the game.
Loxodon Smiter:
Pretty straightforward card. Can't be countered with cards like Dissolve or Essence Scatter and if it was discarded with cards like
Thoughtsieze
then it goes onto the battlefield under your control. A 4/4 for 3 mana, overall strong card.
4 Drops
Advent of the Wurm
:
Only downside to this card is that it's an instant so Domri Rade's +1 won't work on it. But other than that it is an amazing card, for only 4 mana you get a 5/5 with trample and "flash".
Polukranos, World Eater:
Another 5/5 for 4 mana; it's monstrosity can be used as a form of removal while pumping it up at instant speed!
Sideboard
Last Breath
:
To remove small pesky creatures like Voice of Resurgence, Xathrid Necromancer, Master of Waves, Nightveil Specter, or even an early Pack Rat.
Mistcutter Hydra:
Used against mono-blue and sometimes even against Azorius and Esper.
Mizzium Mortars:
Already explained above, have extra in the sideboard if needed.
Pithing Needle:
I usually don't care if my opponent has a planeswalker out but I run one just in case.
Sundering Growth:
To remove annoying enchantments/artifacts like Chained to the Rocks, Detention Sphere, Pithing Needle or Whip of Erebos.
Unflinching Courage:
If I'm against aggro or burn and I need the extra sustain, or if my opponent has a lot of chump blockers and I need the extra trample to get past.
