I've had a serious love for H.P. Lovecraft’s works for a while, and I’m a big fan of ramping Green and beating face..
The beauty of this deck is it’s insane consistency in getting threats onto the board in a hurry!
Crop Rotation to swap a Forest for an Eye of Ugin, Eldrazi Temple, Cavern of Souls, or Wasteland at instant speed is well worth the trade.
Ancient Stirrings does some serious work for this deck. Being able to look at my top 5 cards to grab an Eldrazi or land is great, but being able to grab an artifact that I sideboarded in for problematic matches is amazeballs!! It truly is the “Golden Pig” of this deck.
Crucible of Worlds lets me keep recurring Wastelands, or even get that Forest that I sacrificed with Crop back.
Basilisk Collar is great against other aggro decks and even Burn.
Relic of Progenitus, because graveyard hate is necessary.
Lantern of Insight and From Beyond is here because I really couldn’t pass up on that spicy Lovecraftian flavor win!
From Beyond can prove useful against Goblin Prison decks that just want to shut down my heavy hitters with Ensnaring Bridge, and sacrificing it to get an All is Dust to clear their board of pesky goblins is fun.
Foul Emissary serves three purposes:
1) It obviously helps me grab a bigger threat from the top 4 cards.
2) It is GREAT fodder to use with Eldritch Evolution to grab a Reality Smasher or Thought-Knot Seer.
3) Amazing flavor nod to The Shadow Over Innsmouth!!
Endbringer is just an amazing Swiss Army Knife. It proves useful in a variety of situations and match-ups.
What I look for in an opening hand is quite simple: At least 1 creature (Eldrazi Mimic preferably), at least 1 Forest, and either Crop or Stirrings. The other 4 cards are just extra goodies at that point. It’s rare that I’ve ever hand to mulligan an opening hand. And it’s just as rare that I’m not swing hard to the face by T3.
Cthulhu Fhtagn!!
