First place! 10-2, that's going to look pretty on my planeswalker page.
1st Match 2-1 - Shrieking Affliction Deck - There were two decks I was watching out for, one was Boros, knowing how well humans run, having consistently placing top three the whole month of November with g/w human, the other, was a player who may have a hand full of removals, or cards almost as good. First Match had a beautiful hand of two flinthoofs and Olivia, with three lands to boot. When all was said and done, I only had two flinthoofs on the field, one being buffed by increasing savagery, to swing for the kill as I had to discard my Olivia and truely beloved Thundermaw Hellkite. Round 2 I played a bit more cautiously, knowing what I was up against. When it came down to the last push, instead of a hand full of discard stuff, my foe had a hand full of removals. A murder and two tragic slips later, my field was empty as two nighthawks chipped away for the win. Round 3 was over pretty quickly. Bloodrushed Avenger followed by Thundermaw took the win as I kept his field empty with removals and his enchantments gone with golgari charms.
Round 2 2-0 - I guess this was an izzet Delver/Guttersnipe deck. First game I kept pressure early with dreg manglers and flinthoofs. Second match was a smidgen slower as I had Olivia eating away at two Delvers and a Guttersnipe, converting a guttersnipe to the cause, and more or less taking the game by herself.
Round 3 2-0 Another Delver/Guttersnipe Round One I hit him with two hard casted Ghor-Clan Rampager, which he place two clone down to match, but I forced pressure anyways. As I built my field back up he halted me for a bit thanks to a very expensive double brimstone volley, but I picked back up thanks to Thundermaw. Round 2 was another Olivia win, with Wolfir Avenger there and try to look cool.
Round 4 2-0 Red Deck Wins! - I was actually worried when I realized what I was up against. While my deck has easy potential for turn five wins, it typically takes longer to get a full field presence. First round was a quick one, as he swarmed me, but I was barely able to stabilize at 3 life, ended up taking his hound of griselbrand and hellrider thanks to Olivia, he didn't get one of two cards he needed for the win. Round 2 was much easier as I mainboarded lots and lots of removal and sideboarded rancor, increasing savagery, and kessig wolf run. Was a matter of keeping tempo.
Round 5 2-1 Council Deck - Let me tell you something, Boros, RDW, or any deck that follows a similar concept, is scary for this deck, I have to mull into a certain type of hand. However, this deck turned out to be far scarier. First game I got my creatures out early and the brute force of him was more than he can take despite the amount of life gaining. Ended up taking his ghost council to do one last swing on an empty field, Olivia has been an MVP all night, but I had a lot of pressure on me, both from being last match, and constantly seeing my stuff removed as he was gaining 5+ life a turn and I was losing almost as much. Round 2 I sideboarded in a few charms for Blind Obedience, and slaughter games. Didn't see a single slaughter games as he beat me down with the ghost council. I did a stupid and did a play backwards where I was going to attempt to summon a flinthoof boar, block, and then searing spear, but had to do that a turn later thanks to a brain fart, don't think it would have saved me though, too little too late. Round 3 however, poor sod, opening hand was three mana and two slaughters games, being the highlight, wolfir avenger just there for show. Land, pass, land, far seek, pass, land, slaughter games, called the council, saw what his deck consisted of, and noticed he sideboarded his serenity angels, leaving the biggest threats as restoration angel, and nighthawks. Next turn I slaughter games his restoration angel, and two turns later, night hawks, as it was a slow chip away for the win, thanks to his typhoid rats, High Priest of Penace, and removals, but since most of threats were gone it was really holding board presence, though being at 7 life it was still possible to lose. Guess this was playoff for first, though due to how swiss works, he got knocked down to fifth.
Final Tally of 10-2. Had a lot of fun. This was first time I ran these colors. Earlier in the week I just plurged a bunch of cards, because suddenly the idea of flinging thragtusks at my opponent was the best dang idea I ever had. Though as you can see, there are neither of those cards in this deck haha. When it came down to cutting, it became increasingly difficult to decide what to keep and what to toss, so I tossed Fling and eventually ended up with this deck. I only had two abrupt decays and Olivia, and no Falkenrath Aristocrats. I'll keep this deck intact, but make another deck page for the final product, keeping this as reference of my victory. I know the matches weren't very detailed, actually had problems remembering what the guy was running in third match for a while lol. Was awake since 11 a.m. the previous morning, must've been so excited I couldn't sleep haha. Also on the negative side the gameday stuff didn't make it in, and it sounded like I don't get the awesome playmat :( ahwell. Went undefeated in draft on Gatecrash Release party, my first, and to take first on gameday was a pretty awesome feeling, not a bad month all and all.
