Garruk, Caller of Fatties and Elves

Standard* Elves Mono-Green Ramp

Riceeman

Sideboard

When the new Garruk was spoiled, I was really pumped to make a standard deck to fit him in. Testing with the deck so far is very promising - It can have some lightning fast starts. Turn 3 Garruk into a Fatty is nothing to be sniffed at. Obviously, not all games go that idyllically, and the deck suffers hugely from drawing too much ramp and not enough threats or vice versa. Luckily, Garruk helps smooth the gap by being both an awesome enabler or a searcher. Even throwing him down, +1ing him to search for cheap chump blockers and a fattie to throw down next turn if you can keep him alive is sometimes a fine plan. Sometimes just having many mana elves and pumping them up with Archdruids is enough to help stabilise or put pressure on your opponent.

6 Mana on turn 3 with two cards is either Elvish Mystic/Arbor Elf + Elvish Archdruid or Arbor Elf + Verdant Haven.

The fatties: Worldspine Wurm is in here mainly because I can, and he's a huge resilient threat. Borborygmos can churn up fields or go for your opponent's lifepoints with excess lands, and also provides himself with fodder. Sylvan Primordial can often come down on turn 3 - 5, where he can really mess with your opponent's manabase and help accelerate your own. Costing 7 can also be relevant as it can be hardcast a full turn before most of your other big guys and then generates the last mana to play them. Craterhoof Behemoth is your main win condition, coming down, pumping your dorks and swinging in for lots. Still not sure about the ratios, and thinking if Gruul Ragebeast deserves a spot in the main, but this seems to be working okay. He's in the side deck for creature-heavy match-ups. Thragtusk and Brindle Boar helps against Aggro, Acidic Slime punishes greedy manabases and pesky permanents, Scavenging Ooze messes with Junk-O-Crats and Unburial Rites decks and Silklash Spider is there because, Silklash. It's a nice answer to Lingering Souls + Archangel of Thune decks that I'm expecting to pop up.

Is this the most competitive deck ever? Of course not. But it sure is a hell of a lot of fun ramping into huge guys to throw at your opponent's face.
