What cheap alternatives are there to Goblin Guide? I like this deck but $10 each for four cards is a lot for me...

Same question for shared animosity...

There are not alternatives for Shared Animosity , sorry. As for the Goblin Guide I don't know off the top of my head but there are 2 or 3 modern legal 2/2 or 2/1 goblins for one mana. They just are not as good. Do a search online for them. If I get sometime I will see if I can post them for you.

Goblin Cohort and Tattermunge Maniac are the budget Goblin Guide replacements

Dat sideboard. Try some Chalice of the Void or Sowing Salt at the beginning. Goblin King or Warren Instigator for the main?

I had a playset of Warren Instigator in the deck but it really isn't worth it. It doesn't do anything till third turn and I can dump my hand fast enough. It just slowed me down. It is not a bad card I just cannot find a slot for it. Goblin King is good but at three mana I cannot get it there without slowing the deck down. I can consistently win on fourth turn and sometimes pull a third turn win, if the cards do not help that then they are not going in the deck. The king could be useful as a sideboard card against decks with a fair amount of creatures and mountains but the +1/+1 isn't enough. Sowing Salt costs too much mana. I miss my fourth land drop most games and that would be a dead card for me. As for Chalice of the Void , that card causes me big problems. It can crap on half my deck. I almost changed my sideboard just to deal with it. I have considered adding Smash to Smithereens and taking out Shattering Spree . Thanks for the suggestions though!

What do you think of Magus of the Moon vs Blood Moon?

July 5, 2014 2:48 a.m.

jasinatael says... #8

I think that Magus of the Moon is great but not as good as Blood Moon . Magus can do a little bit of damage, which is great. However, I like Blood Moon because it is harder to get off the board.

Great deck! Works real smoothly! +1 Maybe i would cut one shared animosity because mostly you only need one copy. I can use some help with my deck if some of you have the time, you're welcome to check them out!

Boggart Ram-Gang looks pretty nice...3 drop for a 3/3 Haste Wither is prettyyy nice

jasinatael says... #11

Boggart Ram-Gang just isn't good enough for a slot in this deck. I need to win on the third or fourth turn, he just isn't going to do it for me. Goblin Rabblemaster however is a may work. I need to start playtesting him.

I ran a budget version of this at Comicon and earned 4 booster packs :D thanks so much for the inspiration managed to open a Garruk, Waste Not, and painland because of you c: soon I'll be able to get the more expensive cards for this

traceurling I am glad it worked out for you. Goblins just do not get respect but I think this deck is able to beat most tier 1 decks. If you drop the cash I think you will find you win 90% of your matches. Of course you may need to change the sideboard. Flame Slash is really only useful in my meta and i would drop it for grand prix. Keep me posted on results using this deck.

ninjaq16 Goblin Lackey is not modern legal. Warren Instigator was not worth a slot. I bought a playset and used them for several months and I found without higher costing goblins, like Krenko, Mob Boss he just isn't worth it.

Day 2 of playing at Comicn, went 3-1 to win 6 booster packs (: played pretty well...the game I lost was vs Burn managed to go 1-2 (that traitorous Goblin Guide) really wish I had those cuz my Goblin Cohorts were looking pretty sad...I'll update and post my decklist later but I really need to invest in some destroy artifacts, some situations I had trouble with Platinum Angel (yes someone did play that and my budget deck is slow enough that couldn't kill him fast enough), Wurmcoil Engine was annoying but Demolish killed it and Legion Loyalist with other buffs let me kill the small wurms, and this one Living Equipment that was +4/+4 and lifelink vigilance (timely goblin grenades allowed me to navigate that)...I also played for fun vs an Affinity deck and went 1-2, managing to win when I was on the play so I guess practice being good at high roll :P but yea Affinity is pretty strong

Made a kinda budget version on mtgo, your list with Tattermunge Maniac instead of Goblin Guide and Rabblemasters instead of loyalists.Probably should invest in sideboard and loyalists, but still very playable. Most problems so far with green agro - they can overrun me before I do so to them ><.

What do you think of running x1 MutavaultAlso Goblin King as sideboard vs Red decksAnd what's your reasoning for not running x1 Cavern of SoulsAlso if it's not too much trouble could you post your sideboarding vs specific matchups

July 27, 2014 10:30 p.m.

jasinatael says... #18

Wow... That's a big list to do.

Mutavault does not make red mana. I only run 18 lands so I miss my 4th land drop and sometimes my 3rd. Colorless mana is worthless. Also I cast multiple one-drop spells on my second turn. It would mean using a land to activate it and giving up its mana to use it. I should win on turn 3 or 4. It would not make the deck faster. I agree it is good but it really doesn't shine until later in the game. Maybe you could drop two non-land cards for 2 of them but I don't think it would really help much. Break the game down turn-by-turn and ask yourself which turn you would play it and when you would use its ability. I think you will find you would rather play a kicked bushwhacker or some other two mana combination. It would help with card advantage but in 3 to 5 turns that should not be an issue.

I had Goblin King in the sideboard once, it does work well with Blood Moon . It's just that it is a 3 drop and against red decks they are either fast, run burn, or both. Ask yourself what blockers you need to get around? It is useful but its not better than the other 3 drops and too slow to replace a cheaper card.

Cavern of Souls is great. You could easily put two of them in the deck without causing problems. I don't own them and I don't want to spend 20 bucks on each one. The only thing they would really protect is Goblin Chieftain . I just don't have a problem beating control decks. Mass removal and boardwipes are the only way to beat this deck and most of the time they come too late in the game to matter. A well timed counter will only buy someone a turn but it will cost them one of their's, so in the end they still loose.

Sideboard breakdown:

Blood Moon - For Tron and most any other multicolor deck that runs a bunch of nonbasics. Some people only have 4 or 5 basic lands in the whole deck and they don't use red mana.

Shattering Spree - It has uses against some combo decks but mostly it is there to ensure I win the speed race against Affinity.

Grafdigger's Cage It helps with some versions of Storm, Reanimator, and anything with flash. Its not super useful but when you need it, its the best thing in the world.

Flame Slash - Replace this. I only use it to stop some of the slower combo decks that rely on creatures. If you can keep the pressure on Splinter Turn they may feel rushed and drop something important before they can protect it. Also it helps to get around creatures that are out of "bolt range" like Spellskite .

Most of this depends on your local match-ups. I hope this helps. A little something extra that you didn't ask about, what I take out when I sideboard. Mogg War Marshal and Krenko's Command . A playset of one of them is what I drop. Also never drop more than 4 cards or you risk losing the synergy that makes this deck great.

traceurling says... #20

Ok thanks that helps a lot <3 are you saying you take out either a playset of War Marshal, or a playset of Krenko's Command, or but never both?

Oh also I seem to remember being smashed by the Rock but part of that was having Cohorts instead of Guides and forgetting Tarmogoyf has +1 toughness

July 28, 2014 12:38 p.m.

jasinatael says... #21

Yeah a full playset of one of them but not not both. Drop the marshal if you don't need the blocker but keep it against creature based decks or burn.

Tarmogoyf really doesn't do anything until it is out of bolt range. Even then it only blocks one goblin and if they swing with it just take take the damage.

I feel like an idiot...I just realized I nearly got fucked by Tron because I forgot that Legion Loyalist negates Wurmcoil Engine's tokens and Batterskull's unequipped form

Sorry for all the questions but why don't you run Blood Moon main board? Seems to fuck people over pretty hard

Also, have you considered Kuldotha Rebirth + Signal Pest + Goblin Kaboomist + Memnite ? I recall smashing standart around SoM times. Pest does not receive animosity benefit but gives +1 nonetheless.
