Feelin' lucky, punk?
I've noticed that some people look at
Volatile Rig
, say "that's neat" and then put it in the back of their binder, never to be seen again. Others just laugh outright at it and don't pay it a second thought.
This is
Volatile Rig
's vengeance! Mwahaha!

The basic idea is to create good synergy, mostly involving
Volatile Rig
. Everything else needs to function on its own in the absence of the Rig so that the deck does well without him but takes advantage of him when he comes out. I've won more than a few games without ever seeing
Volatile Rig
.
-I can sac it (triggering its possible explosion) with Trading Post to draw a card. I can make a goat and then sac it to return the Rig to my hand. I can also take advantage of the life gain ability if Sanguine Bond is on the field.
-I can give it lifelink with Azorius Charm when it blows up and bounce the damage to whatever survived (or to their face) with Boros Reckoner, whose ability also takes advantage of the lifelink.
-High Priest of Penance works much the same as Boros Reckoner. When he takes damage from Volatile Rig, he can blow up pesky things like Planeswalkers or other permanents, as well as creatures that survived the blast. He's also a good 2 drop that deters people from attacking the first few turns, which is what I need.
-Sanguine Bond takes advantage of all the lifelink going around in this deck, and of Trading Post's first ability. (I have won at a few games already using Trading Post in conjunction with Sanguine Bond.)
-Whip of Erebos is there for static lifelink that can bring back creatures if I need to.
-Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver will be used to Mill and then Steal opponents' creatures (since I have so few) and to draw some aggro his/her/its way, to spare my lifetotal. His/her/its -10 is used in drawn out games vs control to get rid of their hand (and their answers).
-
Far / Away
can be used as removal. Alternatively, I can use Far on their creature (if it would survive the Rig exploding, like Obzedat or Desecration Demon), and then Away (or just Away) on myself to blow up the Rig if I'm in a sticky situation.
Let me know what you think. Suggestions are appreciated and make sure to +1 if you like it! :)
Made a new deck that seeks to abuse another "useless" card. Not quite as competitive I'm afraid, but it still promises to provide a good time for yourself and your friends, and at a budget!
