Interesting idea. Because it's such a strange build, in all honesty I have no advice to give you. I'm not familiar with anything like this, but it's a cool idea, so +1.

Haha hey mate, very glad your deck is coming along nicely! Such great improvements! Care to take a ponder at my new changes? Aggro is finally less of a hassle!Death of a Salesman (1st place FNM + Game Day)

P.S! Don't forget if you have Sanguine Bond and Whip of Erebos on the field when your Volatile Rig explodes, add in Rootborn Defenses or something to make it INFINITE COMBO with your Boros Reckoner continually hitting and gaining life while they take damage of Sanguine Bond ! :)

dentalflosstycoon: Thanks! Yeah, I have troubles myself editing it due to its wacky nature.
BlueEyes: Yeah, I'll definitely check it out, thanks. I had ruled out Rootborn Defenses before, but now that I've added a 4th Boros I may consider it. For now, I think I'll leave it out since I just can't see it functioning well in my deck aside from the infinite life gain. If I make a combo, every card in the combo needs to function perfectly fine outside of the combo, or I don't include it. My decks are more consistent and reliable that way.
G.O.S.O: It is, unfortunately. People are willing to spend way too much on these rectangular pieces of cardboard. I never buy cards if I can help it, I trade my way up to what I want.

first of all, +1 for the VERY unique way of playing esper. Although have you thought about still running on a classic esper control with volatile rig as your bomb or a pseudo-board wipe? I'm currently running on an esper control and would like to make some space for this Rig-Charm-Bond combo. Also, why not run some Hero's Downfall instead of Far//Away?

Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver is a dude, read the Fat Pack booklet, the page about Ashiok refers to Him, not Her.

Rocknj06: I feel like that ox would be a little underwhelming when facing aggro.
WovenNebula: Thanks!
Eskmohunter: I'll be sure to check it out when I get the chance, glad you like it so much.
leatherface: Thank you! I've thought about it, but that kind of deck just isn't for me. This is far more unique and fun (which to me is the same thing), and I feel like this takes better advantage of Volatile Rig because there are far more things that trigger and synergize with him. I have thought about Hero's Downfall but Far / Away has proven to have far more versatility in this deck, as shown in the description. At the FNM match I detailed in one of my updates where my Rig blew up after a Master of Waves hit the field, what happened was I swung with the Rig, which he intelligently did not risk blocking, putting him down to 10. I then used Far on Thassa, since she would survive the possible Rig explosion, let him scry the next turn, and possibly become a creature again very quickly, and then used Away on the Rig, causing him to explode (with Whip of Erebos on the field). That's just one example, but its versatility comes in handy every time I have it in hand. Of course, it's always disappointing when the Rig doesn't explode, but that's what Whip of Erebos and Trading Post are there for.

Behgz: Eh, looks like a girl, so I'll stick with that, haha. :) That's a little disappointing, there's too few female Planeswalkers as it is. A decent number, but I still feel there could be more.

It's just annoying to see Ashiok turned into the new Trostani, Selesnya's Voice who the jury is still out on, when it clearly says in documents printed by Wizards of the Coast that Ashiok is indeed Male.
The fact that so many people continue to be confused by his gender when all anyone has to do is buy a fat pack and read the book inside, it's quite annoying.
sorry if that seemed a bit harsh, but this incorreect stereotype won't go away until people agree to acknowledge the truth. One person at a time, and today, that person is you, stop furthering the incorrect stereotype, tell all your friends at FNM that Ashiok is a dude.

I think you're taking this too seriously. Most people interested in the card game don't give a hoot about the story too much. I see what you mean, and I'd be a bit annoyed to if I followed the story, but you can't expect it to be as big a deal to everyone else as it is to you. I'm not going to buy a fat pack to confirm a fictional character's gender. I'll take your word for it, but I really don't care one way or the other.

Guilty, glad to see some one using it.

phil2010: Thanks, glad you like it! I'll try my best, kind of waiting for the next part of Theros to see if there's any crazy cards I can take advantage of. This one is keeping me more than entertained enough for now.
Darsul: I did the same thing at first glance, but the Rig would not allow me to abandon it. It doesn't like to stay idle.

OK, now make for Street Sweeper . Then I'll be really impressed.
November 22, 2013 12:14 a.m.
Araganor lmao, challenge not accepted, at least on my part. Talk about a useless card hahaha.

Also, Behgz, I did a little digging and it turns out that Ashiok is officially "gender neutral" or "gender unspecified". The use of masculine pronouns in the Fat Pack was either an oversight or just them using it as the default pronoun, as people tend to do. Just like how I use "he" when referring to Volatile Rig , who obviously has no gender. It's also difficult to talk about someone for more than a sentence or two without using a gender-specific pronoun. "It" just doesn't cut it.
I'd like to direct you to two different links; the first is a blog post by writer/designer for MTG Doug Beyer, addressing this question. The second is the "Fat Pack Description" as it is on the Wizards official website. Every pronoun has been replaced/corrected with "Ashiok".

As for Street Sweeper guys... I just.. I don't.. I can't... no.
November 22, 2013 12:36 a.m.
Well, 'he' isn't a 'she' any more than a 'he', so I'l have to bite that aspect, but I was correct about Ashiok Not being female, at the least.
