Goblins? Modern? Competitive? Yes. Goblins is a fast paced budget ready competitive tier two deck that is fun for almost any player and you can just throw it together for about $100.
MANA
12-19x Mountain The goal of the deck is to be efficient and having a mono colored deck helps however green splashes for Destructive Revelry and Atark's Command if you want it
Forest Same as Mountain concept above
Fire-Lit Thicket I thought it would be the best suited for the deck because it can tap for or and this helps believe it or not
Wooded Foothills Helps thin out for better cards
CREATURES
Foundry Street Denizen
Pure value with it down turn one, a
Mogg War Marshal
can mean heavy damage on turn 2. Value is what makes the deck good.
Goblin Arsonist
Our budget replacement for Goblin Guide. Guide would be miles better but Arsonist can still put in some good work trading up or sometimes even a 2 for 1.
Legion Loyalist Pushes Piledriver in with trample and saves all our creatures from trades. What more could you want.
Goblin Piledriver
The all-star that literally wins the game by not being dead. Can't be countered by blue and with trample is nearly unstoppable.
Bushwhacker/Reckless Bushwhacker Gives Haste and +1 for a turn. Turns you 1/1 army into 2/1s, making 10 cards mean a kill at ZeRo. Reckless and Goblin Bushwhacker each have their own benefits, Goblin Bushwhacker being easier to get off, but Reckless leaves a 2/1 behind at the cost of it's surge. If you can, cast Surge out on turn 3-4.
Goblin Chieftain
A new old addition to the team. +1 +1 and haste is a consistent bushwhacker effect
Mogg War Marshal
Better Krenko's Command as you can chump with the Marshal leaving you with what you had before.
Mogg Fanatic
Meh. While not replaceable, not amazing. Only a 3 of. But, can surge with Reckless Bushwhacker as an added feature.
SPELLS
Lightning Bolt Nuff said
Goblin Grenade One of the, if not the best card in the deck. 1 and a 1/1 for 5 direct is a worthy trade
Cards you would want in your opening hand are
Foundry Street Denizen
, 2-3 mountains, 1-2 sources of removal, Goblin Guide,
Mogg War Marshal
, and Legion Loyalist, 1 bushwhacker, and maybe a sideboarded card
SIDEBOARD
Ghost Quarter For Tron use on tower as much as possible. GREAT in the match up as they usually don't play basics from what I've seen. You may want a splash of Black for dreadbore Karn, ugin, wurmcoil, etc.
Leyline of Punishment For life gain or stall decks Like Turbo Fog and Soul Sisters
Destructive Revelry for affinity. Getting rid of that 14/14 ravager or other wise is good.
Tormod's Crypt for delve decks, dredge decks or to get rid of Snapcaster Mage's target
Dragon's Claw for burn and other hyper aggro red decks like zoo.
VARIATIONS
If you are on a budget like I am, Do 19 Mountain and Do Smash to Smithereens instead of Destructive Revelry. You can also play
Atarka's Command
or Collateral Damage if you want as 3 of and a a more removal oriented deck. Take out
Mogg Fanatic
to do so.
