This deck is my take on a tier 2-3 modern deck, Skred red. The basic idea behind that deck is to use red burn spells and sweepers to control the board long enough to resolve
Koth of the Hammer
, and proceed to ping away with your lands. In play testing Skred Red, I found a couple of issues. I often ran out of steam quickly, and I had an inability to win if my first Koth was answered. To solve these problems, I added two card draw engines:
1) Tormenting Voice - Not great card advantage, but it does let me filter an unneeded card for 2 new cards. Not the best, but it works.
2)
Avaricious Dragon
- By the time I drop this guy, I'm usually out of cards, so his draw back doesn't matter. The extra draw every turn provides fuel, which this deck desperately needs.
The inclusion of the dragon also solved another major problem, stalling late game. How? Ensnaring Bridge! Hard for my opponent to attack when I have no hand size.
Card Choices/Key Interactions:
Blood Moon
- Screw you expensive mana bases.
Avaricious Dragon
+ Ensnaring Bridge - No attacking for you.
Skred
+
Boros Reckoner
- Late game massive damage.
Koth of the Hammer
- Generates attackers if I'm ahead, ramp if I fall behind, and his emblem is pretty much gg.
Lightning Bolt - Its modern and we're playing red...
Pyroclasm +
Slagstorm
- Board wipes. Combine with
Boros Reckoner
for damage to the face too.
