Really good looking deck! I wonder if card:Geralf's Messenger, Death Baron and/or Liliana of the Veil are good choices?

I think especially Liliana's abilities suit your ideas?

I agree, those cards are all great and were actually in previous builds of this deck. The problem came when I added green and Life from the Loam . It got to the point where I always wanted and needed to be dredging, so my Lords and Lilianas weren't ever seeing the field unless I drew them in my starting hand or got lucky with Faithless Looting . And I will be likely to dredge off Faithless Looting , too, which makes it unlikely to get cards without some sort of graveyard casting.

Make a list and post it here! I'm about to proxy a bunch of zombie decks to play test against this one.

Gifts is a lifesaver. I was using Grisly Salvage and Commune with the Gods but I was only dropping them late game and had mana left over. Gifts allowed me to go to 1 Haakon, Stromgald Scourge and 1 Nameless Inversion, freeing up space for six cards without changing my curve. It's actually more consistent.

interesting take,
going for the search option instead of the dredge everything on the graveyard i am testing.
+1 for a haakon deck ofc i really liked the Cavern of Souls.
Why rancor? Just for the trample? wont a dredge / unearth / flashback /scavenge ability be better?

Gakros I'm actually starting to wonder about the rancors. I had it at 4x for a while, it helped with the aggro aspect; rancoring a gravecrawler into a trample nantuko husk was nice. But when I added it, I had kind of a durdly deck and it fixed it. A lot of new cards have been added and I haven't given it much consideration.

I've never playtested a Haakon deck that didn't run 100% zombies so I never tried stinkweed imp when I ran loam. Started this deck as a Johnny tribal. Your dredge approach is far superior to the dredge take I had.

Love seeing other Haakon players!

thanks for the kind words, but untill i can beat a decent amount of creatureless meta decks (Ad Nauseum, Scapeshift etc) AND Burn my deck is subpar.
your deck has the free spots to move around and manage that i think.will see keep it up haakon player :)

Where the Cryptbreakers at? Its power level is up there with gravecrawler. First of all, it's 1 mana, and you seem to be lacking in the 1-mana department. Second of all, it's a discard outlet. Most importantly, it allows you to draw into more gas and gifts/other combo pieces. I would put it in without any second thoughts. I suggest removing some number of trolls and belchers, since Cryptbreaker does almost the same thing as troll, and belcher just seems like the worst 3-drop (of which you already have an insane amount of) of the bunch. Even though it has 5 power, your win-con seems to be husk+gravecrawler, which grows much bigger than belcher. Would suggest taking out 2 of each for the playset of cryptbreakers.

MutaliskLord4

Great feedback! I must have forgotten about cryptbreaker's draw ability when I cut it while adding gifts and blue. I have a playset already, I'm gonna start testing it out again.

interesting deck, hereMardu Creatures is the zombie deck i run if you want to playtest. I too decided to cut fatal push recently for Anger of the Gods to help against dredge and affinity.

I run the same Gravecrawler + Nantuko Husk wincon but i play Bridge from Below as well.

Cool deck, similar combos. Biggest difference is I'm trying to stay true zombie tribal. I'm going to playtest Bridge from Below and maybe swap my Liliana, the Last Hopes for Liliana of the Veils to get Bridge from Below into the graveyard easier.

Sweet glad I could help, I would like to run Lili as well but I haven't been able to get one.

Another thought that could help with burn matchup instead of dragon claw play Gifted Aetherborn and more Collective Brutality.Gifted aetherborn has to be answered and collective brutality gets you life and takes away one of their spells. Both have use in more mu than just burn. Ik gifted isn't zombie but dragon claw isn't either...

bigshocka says... #17

Thinking about it, though, you're definitely right about Collective Brutality against burn. My sideboard has been adjusted to include a full playset. Liliana's have now turned into competition for Nantuko Husk or Diregraf Colossus. I cut the lilianas for Bridge from Below

This is seriously the most fun and promising Zombie combo deck I've seen for Modern +1

Thanks!! It was tough cutting green and Collected Company. As soon as I get the Bridge from Belows I'm going to take it to FNM and post results.

hey man, cutting green makes this deck look more solid, maybe tho some IOK for more reliable self discard/ distruption? cant wait to see results

Good hearing from you again Lothen! I've actually been toying with Inquisition of Kozilek/Compelling Deterrence in the sideboard instead of the Haakombo/Gifts against decks that are spell heavy.

Wow this deck is awesome! I have a Zombie EDH deck so I can appreciate all the zombies and token production. As far as suggestions go I don't really have much, maybe Gempalm Polluter? Cycle him after a few turns of making tokens and that could almost be a wincon. Other than that it seems like a really well put together deck, good job on being awesome!

bigshocka says... #24

Hey thanks! Gempalm Polluter is an amazing card that I would kill for in modern along with Carrion Feeder and Survival of the Fittest.
