Damn this is a cool deck! I don't know how good Whip of Erebos is though. I'm curious how good Pentad Prism would be. I feel like their should be some cantrips to find Gifts Ungiven Serum Visions or Sleight of Hand would work.

Goryo's Vengeance would be a cool surprise against surgical extraction

Here is a list I found of of gifts control on MTGTop8http://www.mtgtop8.com/event?e=4485&d=226038

Thanks for the tips! I have Whip of Erebos in for Obzedat, Ghost Council but it probably isn't necessary. I was thinking about putting in Serum Visions because like you said this deck does need cantrips to find all the cards you need. It's all too often that I find myself without anything to do and with no cards in hand. I also like the idea of Goryo's Vengeance but I feel like that would make this too much like Grisel Cannon.I'll check out those deck lists and see what I could change as Whip of Erebos probably won't stay for too long

Yeah this deck seems really cool do you ever just have too many bombs? For bombs I like to keep it simple, Griselbrand , Iona, Shield of Emeria , and Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite

I do think I have a few too many bombs but I run Sphinx of the Steel Wind mainboard because the local metal has a lot of Red Deck Wins or Green/Red Aggro and that just shuts them down as does Wurmcoil Engine . I suppose I could cut Primeval Titan and Obzedat, Ghost Council in favor of more targets for the Snapcasters or an Iona, Shield of Emeria

You are right about Wurmcoil Engine and Sphinx of the Steel Wind I did not realize.

I think cutting Prime time and Obzedat, Ghost Council will be favorable

I had Craterhoof Behemoth in at one point and I could put it back in as a one of in place of Stirring Wildwood .

Nice to see those Abrupt Decay in sideboard. This deck looks really well polished though, there's little bullshit between your early game set up and late game reanimating. Only suggestions I have are maybe Liliana of the Veil , more Grisly Salvage , and Iona, Shield of Emeria over Sphinx of the Steel Wind .

I would definitely run Liliana of the Veil if I had the money right now to buy 2 or 3 and Iona, Shield of Emeria is definitely going in when this deck goes to a GP or similar event. Sphinx of the Steel Wind is only in there because it crushes the local meta of RDW and Red/Green Aggro.

I really love this though. My favorite modern gifts deck I've seen. +1

Thanks! I was wondering what I would do in the scenario of somebody running Blood Moon as that completely shuts down my deck after it lands. Any suggestions?

DwarvenPony says... #16

Counter it.

February 22, 2014 11:02 p.m.

DwarvenPony says... #17

Or run fewer nonbasic lands

February 22, 2014 11:03 p.m.

DwarvenPony says... #18

Just more plains so you may be able to Disenchant

February 22, 2014 11:03 p.m.

Haxnslash says... #19

That's what I was thinking but I'll probably just put some Disenchant in the sideboard and hope not to run into a deck running a lot of Blood Moon .

February 22, 2014 11:06 p.m.

DwarvenPony says... #20

The problem is you don't run any basic Plains , if they resolve Blood Moon you won't be able to actually Disenchant it because you won't have any white mana.

February 22, 2014 11:19 p.m.

Haxnslash says... #21

You can float white mana in response to the casting of Blood Moon then cast disenchant or float black and green mana in response then cast Abrupt Decay .

vishnarg says... #22

You need you to run some basics anyway because paths and ghost quarters will slow you down. Every modern deck should probably have at least 2 basics. if I were you I would try to fit a Swamp and a forest.

I would definitely recommend Iona, Shield of Emeria . She shuts down a lot of decks. Do you know how hard it is to win when you can't cast spells? The answer is very, very hard.

February 23, 2014 12:59 p.m.

Haxnslash says... #24

I know how hard it is to win without casting spells and Iona, Shield of Emeria is already in the deck when I go to tournaments but for FNM I leave in Sphinx of the Steel Wind as its better against the local meta.

Oh, ok. That makes sense.
