Sideboard

Maybeboard

Awhile ago, I bought Gisela, Blade of Goldnight to replace the commander of a Boros Spellslinger deck I'd had and found that while her effect was potent, it took too long to get her out onto the field to be effective for a strategy that relies on speed and aggro. After a lengthy explanation of concepts such as mana curve, tempo, and breaking parity by a veteran MTG friend, it was suggested that I split the deck and pursue a Spellslinger deck with a new commander and turn Gisela into a 'Tron deck. This being a playstyle I'd wanted to build into since I'd heard of it, I jumped at the chance. This deck is the result.

This deck is built with the idea that Gisela is the endgame silver bullet (or rather artillery shell). Artifacts are selected primarily to buff Gisela (or whatever creature may become 'Tron in an emergency) through keywords, but also include mana rocks/land grabs to counteract Red and White's general lack of ramp options. The few amount of included Instants, Sorceries and Enchantments primarily focus on tutoring/cheating out artifacts with a couple land grabs for ramp. Creatures are focused on buffing through/tutoring out artifacts, with Heartless Hidetsugu included as a separate combo wincon with Gisela, Blade of Goldnight.

The sideboard includes cards to counter specific strategies employed by the various decks of my regular playgroups: Blight Sickle for decks that include a lot of indestructibility, Hedron Blade for Artifact/Vehicle/Eldrazi decks, Neko-Te for decks that employ field control effects via tap/activated abilities, Kusari-Gama and Entangler for wide token decks such as Goblins or Zombies, and utility artifacts such as Mind's Eye and Rogue's Gloves if card draw becomes an issue.

The Maybeboard includes selections I omitted for reasons such as "This might be too niche for general-purpose use", "I'm not sure about the cost/benefit ratio of this", or "I didn't have the heart to quite fully omit this yet, so I've filed it here as a sort of Purgatory middle-ground".

Suggestions are welcome for upgrades, sidegrades, or strategy streamlining/fat-trimming. Name TBD upon first victory with the deck
