I don't like the Roc Egg very much, I see its purpose, but I feel it's too situational. Besides, even if you get a creature after you wipe out the board it's not card advantage as you had to play it down before you wiped.

I think Mikaeus, the Lunarch and Fiend Hunter s are better options.

I would: -2 Roc Egg , -1 Mesa Enchantress , +2 Fiend Hunter , +1 Mikaeus, the Lunarch ,

And work from there. Good luck!

I would try to fit in a couple Gideon Jura and a couple Auramancer s, or at least on the sideboard.

With Fiend Hunter in play and with something exiled, will slagstorm kill both if the creature has 3 or less toughness? Wasnt sure??

Tian says... #5

No, don't listen to them. If you use slagstorm with fiend hunter in play, the exiled creature will come back unharmed, and fiend hunter will be dead.

That doesn't mean the Fiend Hunter is not good, it has good interaction with Sun Titan . It is maybe not the best fit for the deck, but certainly more useful than Roc Egg in most cases. If you don't like how it doesn't interact well with Slagstorm you can always swap it for Oblivion Ring for instance. Thats probably better as it also deals with artifacts and enchantments.

I like it! Have you taken this to FNM? I'm curious how it does against the field. For mympart, mimwould take out both Mesa Enchantress es and a Slagstorm for a Fiend Hunter and 2x Day of Judgment .

A neat combo just came to mind when I looked at this. Get your Sun Titan out. Then next turn you use Fiend Hunter and target your own Titan. Then you drop a Day of Judgment and wipe out everything, except you get the Titan AND another dude back (the Titan re-enters the battlefield)...

Pretty cool deck. +1 from me!

Mesa has been awesome so far, the card draw really helps this deck, and with 15+ enchants its worth it, I have tested against a white weenie deck which it stalls enough to finish the game pretty easily. So far I am favoring slagstorm over day, just because anything over 3 toughness gets controlled pretty easily. Sun titan almost always brings back a fiend hunter to recontrol something. People love to blow fiend hunter up and he comes right back with no penalty. The real problem I have is when I don't get ahold of an early slagstorm, may go to a 4 off. Otherwise the deck has amazing control, once I live passed turn 4 its almost a guaranteed win. Gideon is an incredible 2 off and is paying dividends almost every game.

I would go with Day of Judgment instead of Slagstorm main because of manabase and it's an answer to titans and other huge creatures.

The problem with day is it frees whatever fiend hunter has exiled which more often then not cannot happen. Ive also finished games with slagstorms to players. The 3 mana cost of slags is also helpful early against aggro decks like temp steel and more often then not 3 damage is enough. The bonds of faith/ o-ring/ fiend hunter/ lawkeepers jobs are to lockdown the fat beat sticks not slagstorm or day of judgement. Ive set up the deck to have clear counters for different things, and slagstrom is purely there for token control and weenies, not titans.

I really dig this - been thinking about running a barbs/sanctuary combo, and something like this looks nice.

I might've picked up a few things had I seen this deck earlier anyway. I also ran a deck a few days back similar to this although I ran it a bit differently with werewolves, cof and shards. Mana Sanctuary. +1 from me coz I think you realized the combo earlier than I did. :D

I think perhaps a few Isolation Cell 's could work quite well in this deck. If only you could somehow find room for blue for Vapor Snag or Disperse to force them into submission casting any spell they try! +1 for a neat deck and one that runs well!

The new red werewolf that does the same thing as isolation cell (2 damage for spell casts) is being considered. Splashing third color is really tough with having double red casting costs already....

On a side not i nearly decked a friends G/U graveyard deck with splinterfrights, boneyard wurms, and spider spawns. Was pretty satisfying seeing him with 5 cards in his library.
