Sideboard

A midrange deck build around The Gitrog Monster.

Lands:Creatures:
  • The Gitrog Monster: Namesake of the deck, great card advantage. Survives Hour of Devastation and all other commonly played removal spells
  • Ramunap Excavator : Brings back Lands sacced with Gitfrog
  • Tireless Tracker: 26 lands to generate huge amount of clues. Him + Ramunap Excavator + The Gitrog Monster = unbeatable value engine
  • Wretched Camel + Thought-Knot Seer: Discard on a stick to gain longterm advantage to get to the lategame
  • Ramunap Hydra: Plays a great offense/defense game. I would play one more instead of a TKS if my meta wasn't full of control decks
  • Rhonas the Indomitable: Giving Gitfrog trample feels great
  • Sylvan Advocate: filling out the <3 slots in our manacurve, testing him on gameday
Tournament Section
I played the deck last Saturday (22.08.17) for the first time. Went 2-1 and played two matches vs U/R Control and one vs U/B Zombies.
  • 2-0 U/R Control
  • 2-0 U/B Zombies
  • 0-2 U/R Control
Due to my meta being infested with Control decks, my sideboard included 4 Prowling Serpopard. Although i had access to these "silver bullets" i lost one of those matches against U/R Control. Funny enough, the second match i played i drew 3 of the Catsnakes and this was just not enough... their sweepers and removal spells dealing 3 damage made my cat look rly silly.

Both games against Zombies were close. I had a hard time dealing with their recurring threats.

Sideboard changes:

So, standard showdown this Saturday i got the same results, a 2-1 finish.Played:
  • 2-0 Mono R Aggro
  • 0-2 Mono R Eldrazi
  • 2-0 Grixis Bolas Control
First game vs mono R was against my friend, who had actually no clue what i was on. He kept a two lander and never saw a third land, so i got pretty lucky. Game two a Jaddi Offshoot turn two plus never ending Evolving Wilds with Ramunap Excavator gained me enough life to execute the game plan, Ramunap Hydra playing offense and defense was pretty impressive that game.

Against Eldrazi... nothing to tell here. Got flooded both games. Kept hands with 3 spells and 4 lands and only drew lands. Chandra and her tentacle pets killed me rather quick.

Third match against another friend of mine. He switched from a world championship YU-Gi-OH player to magic 4month ago, so there were a few mistakes on his side, but i dont think those mistakes cost him the game. The camel, TKS and transgress the mind ripped his hand apart and the game end in my favor rather quick. I saw one gearhulk so i brought in the 2 appetites and 2 scarab feast and the last transgress.Game 2 was exactly like the first. Camel beatdown which got stopped by a sweltering suns cost him 2 cards in his hand. followed by 3 TKS.
