{BG} Part {1} The Story {BG}

In 2016 I obtained a judge foil Crucible of Worlds in a $100 trade with an old magic friend (value dropped off a cliff now). A few days later, The Gitrog Monster was spoiled. Naturally I felt this was some sign from God, so I just had to start building a new EDH deck.

The deck started up nice and cheap, with mostly non foils and budget friendly versions of some of the cards seen in this list today.

Several years and a lot of money later, I find myself here... This deck is very much my favourite deck to play and updates to this deck are difficult to make...

This deck is not entirely reliant and devoted to trying to achieve the Dakmor Salvage combo as fast as possible. One card end the game combo's get boring and some games, I will avoid hunting for Dakmor Salvage just to vary the game play.

I have been maintaining and playing this deck for 9 years (2016-2025). Suggestions welcome, but chances are, I've either tried it, or can't afford it.

{BG} Part {2} Latest/Pending Deck Changes {BG}

In:

• Culling Ritual - Nicer board clear and doesn't just hit creatures.
• Walk-In Closet / Forgotten Cellar - Additional Land Drop enchantment with Yawgmoth's Will built in
• Hedge Shredder - Effect is crazy when milling.
• Six - It's just good.
• Underground Mortuary - Fetch-able (replaces Prismatic Vista)

Out:

• Nissa, Vital Force - Doesn't provide enough impact. Better options added.
• Mana Crypt - BANNED
• Jeweled Lotus - BANNED
• Prismatic Vista - Not enough basics anymore to justify it.
• Yahenni's Expertise - Culling ritual is better.

{BG} Part {3} How to play the deck {BG}

The infinite combo Show

Dakmor Salvage + Skirge Familiar + The Gitrog Monster

With Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre in the deck, this combo can infinitely draw you your entire deck, and make infinite black mana. You can convert that mana to green mana easy enough with Crop Rotation. Win by creating infinite creatures of infinite size with something like Avenger of Zendikar , win in your turn with Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord, or destroy all your opponents permanents with Assassin's Trophy.

Once you've gone infinite, with this combo you can abuse most of the cards in this deck. Most people normally scoop...

Dark depths Show

Dark Depths + Thespian's Stage

Copy Dark Depths with Thespian's Stage. Legend rule applies and you must sacrifice the original Dark Depths. The the new copy does not have counters on it, so the effect of Dark Depths (Thespian's Stage) activates and you have a 20/20!

Fog forever Show

Constant Mists + Dakmor Salvage OR Constant Mists + Drownyard Temple

Activate Constant Mists every turn and always have a land to sacrifice to pay the buy back cost. Pair it with some Additional Land drop cards and you don't even need to lose out on a land drop.

Glacial Chasm + Life from the Loam OR Glacial Chasm + Crucible of Worlds (or similar) + Azusa, Lost but Seeking (or any combination of additional land effects)

Basically, the above combo is using Glacial chasm any of the many ways to let it die every turn and still play it, plus another land.

Landfall to the max. Show

Use Zoran Orb or Splendid Reclamation

Utilise Splendid Reclamation or World Shaper to return all your lands.

Have a big LandFall effect in play - Avenger of Zendikar , Lotus Cobra etc etc etc

{BG} Part {4} Historical Considerations {BG}

These are all cards I have either tried before, or those which I want to try but have not yet been able to acquire a pretty enough version to put in the deck... Change my mind on them if you can!

Creatures

• Worm Harvest - Good synergy, but not the win con this deck wants.
• Rampaging Baloths - A worthy inclusion, but where is the space? Titania does similar things for now.
• Deathrite Shaman - It's good early game, but diminishing returns, and in general, I want to keep lands in graveyard.
• Centaur Vinecrasher - Good synergy, but doesn't fit the playstyle of the deck.
• Tireless Tracker - Replaced by Tireless Provisioner - it's just better.
• Acidic Slime - I have other removal.
• Greenwarden of Murasa - Too slow/big mana
• Kozilek, Butcher of Truth - Left to make way for Ulamog, in favour of removal over draw.

Instants

• Rain of Filth - I don't enjoy big one turn end the game events. Deck is more than capable of that without another narrow card for it.
• Worldly Tutor - I bought Vampiric Tutor. Hard to find a slot for this. Vampiric CAN get lands.
• Noxious Revival - Why?
• Harrow - Harro-dere. I prefer play extra land cards and just having a higher land count. I don't play many basics.

Sorcery

• Traverse the Ulvenwald - I have better tutors now (Vampiric/Demonic)
• Diabolic Intent - It's a good tutor, but sometimes you're only working with Gitrog Monster itself and you don't want to sacrifice it!
• Raven's Crime - Perfect for the deck but doesn't really have much impact in multiplayer.
• Grim Tutor - Not as good as Demonic Tutor
• Hour of Promise - 5 Mana to get any 2 lads - great, but I have faster ways to get lands.

Artifacts

• Horn of Greed - I am not friendly enough for this.

Enchantments

• The Mending of Dominaria - Too slow and too big mana.
• Ayula's Influence - The discard outlets I have are more effective.

Lands

• Buried Ruin - not enough artifacts to make it worth it.

P.S - I upvoted my own deck for clout, a long while ago. I can't undo this decision and must live with it.
