Part 2 of my Black Commanders series, this time paired with Green! Ever since The Gitrog Monster was spoiled, it has been a pet card of mine. I tried ever so hard to make it work in Standard, but it never really had the legs. However, it has proven to be a very strong commander, and this is my second attempt at building the deck. The first version was the more 'traditional' combo-centric version of the deck. Having played with that deck a bunch of times I quickly became bored with the repetitive nature of the games and so dismantled the deck for a re-build. Some time later and here we are! The deck is a very much a land centric deck, that mostly wins through large boardstates and creature dominance.

WIN CONDITIONS

There is a single infinite combo in the deck, and it is pretty fragile as well as two of the pieces not really having any other role in the deck. The cards in the combo are as follows:

Maze of Ith

Krosan Restorer

Ishkanah, Grafwidow

The combo requires you to have all three pieces on the board, the Restorer to not be summoning sick, and for you to have achieved Threshold. From there, you enter combat with the Restorer, then untap the Restorer with you Maze. From there you are able to activate the Restorer to untap Maze, a black land, and any third land of your choice, generating an arbitrarily large amount of mana which you can pump into Ishkanah, killing the board in one clean sweep.

Avenger of Zendikar and Mazirek, Kraul Death Priest in combination with a land sacrifice outlet such as Squandered Resources is able to kill the table it pretty short order with many gigantic plants. You can replace Avenger with the slightly slower Rampaging Baloths and Mazirek with Splendid Reclamation assuming you are set up to do so.

Ob Nixilis, the Fallen and Splendid Reclamation can stack up damage really quickly, especially if you have a Zuran Orb or Squandered Resources in play.

Strip Mine and Crucible of Worlds is still one of the hottest synergies in Magic. Just know that it makes enemies fast.

If you like having fun with lands, having the most mana on the board, or The Gitrog Monster, then this is the deck for you!
