Yea I'd love to play it as well, its a tough deck to learn to play since there's so many complicated interactions and strategies you often wouldn't see in other decks, but I love when it goes off.
As soon as Griselbrand hits the field regardless if he has haste you can use his activated ability as many times as you can pay the cost, this way you should be able to exploit Soul Spike and hopefully find a Crimson Wisps to cast.

yup, same with Relic of Progenitus or even a simple Deathrite Shaman to be honest. But lets say that they side in 4 graveyard hate cards g2, now we're both playing the luck game, they can shut me down turn 1 or 2, but I can combo out early as well, possibly at instant speed playing around their removal.
But yea, the deck is called Glass Cannon for a reason, its very fragile.

This is the first modern deck I've seen that I'd actually want to play. Have you tried it against Legacy decks?

I'm sure it'd do reasonably fine vs casual Legacy, but cards like Force of Will and Swords to Plowshares are way to prevalent in any sort of competitive scene. Even in competitive Modern, I'd feel much better bringing a much more consistent, well rounded deck like Splinter-twin or RWU midrange to the table.
As fun as this deck is the only saving grace is it's speed, if you have the right cards you can win really quick, but if your opponent maindecks answers for your combo or even if you just aren't drawing the right cards the deck can whiff really easy.

Then if/when I do build this... BIG if. Then I would try to streamline it to include the combo as well as stabilize for the event of a whiff.
I just don't have the funds to do so.
Thanks for the considerate warning :D

Ok so here's my shot: Grisel Cannon, Enraged
I realized how vulerable it was to pithing needle, and other graveyard hate, so I wanted to maximize on the great strengths of the deck, and give another win condition.
While I was testing I went through A LOT of cards and ended up more with the same that you have, like Crimson Wisps
.
Borborygmos Enraged
is like a less good Griselbrand
but in the best situation, you can still get at least one Fury of the Horde
or 2 spare lands in hand and then just throw lands at them.

I love how absolutely reckless this deck is.. And I honestly think it's better than you give it credit for.
First reason: If you get going, you win - Period.Second reason: You can mulligan oh so agressively since you practically only need 3-4 cards to play the entire deck.Third reason: There are cards that counter it, but they aren't many and you usually end up being able to draw your entire deck in the turn you win.

Playtesting this deck (which I think is awesome by the way) and realized the synergy with a T1 Forbidden Orchard , tap for red and use it to cast Lightning Axe to kill the guy you just gave them in case they didn't have one turn 1. +1 from me.

just curious, why Sulfurous Springs over Blood Crypt or Graven Cairns ?
November 2, 2013 12:36 p.m.
CardsAndStuff Yea, thats what I said too, I was surprise that NONE of the Glass Cannon variants realized that either, it actually got me to run 4 Forbidden Orchard instead of 2, for that guaranteed turn one mana.
Spazik008, In the hopeful way the deck works, you can play and win the deck off of one land, so you need the guaranteed red/black from a land, Graven Cairns as a land by itself, its not much to go off of, nor does it work with Chancellor of the Tangle . Blood Crypt shocks you for 2, while Sulfurous Springs only hits your for one, comes into play untapped and has that mana. Sometimes you MAY shock have to tap it twice but ff you play past turn 5 in many competitive cases, you probably lost. This lower amount of life spent can also make drawing with Griselbrand MUCH safer.
I've been playing this deck for a month and week now, and I've had great success, and great fun with my own variant, which uses Borborygmos Enraged . :)

interesting. I recently dropped the shocklands from my Red/Black modern build because I was already losing a lot of life from Thoughtseize and Dark Confidant . Good to know I'm not completely insane yet.

I find that the one of the biggest problems I run into with game 2 and 3 is the exiling of Griselbrand from my graveyard, especially from things like Surgical Extraction because then I'm just done. I switched back to Through the Breach and Goryo's Vengeance in the mainboard and added Emrakul, the Aeons Torn x4 to have a second win con in case one or the other is exiled. I use Pentad Prism to help mana ramp up to 5 for Through the Breach by turn 3. What I'm planning on doing is putting Pull from Eternity 4x in the sideboard so that I can do several things. I can pull either beaters back after a Goryo's Vengeance if need be (sometimes Griselbrand will get hit with a Sudden Death and I don't pull the cards I need without the life gain so I only do most of the damage). Or I can pull back one of the cards exiled with Surgical Extraction or any of the other ways our guys get exiled. What do you guys think?

Here's my version of the deck Griselbrand the Aeons Torn, any tips would be appreciated.

Thoughtseize If you're playing some form of control it will get their counterspell out. Anything else do it to yourself and you get Griselbrand into your graveyard that way.

Thoughtseize was considered, and though I could see it working, Chances are I'd be using it on myself, that 2 life lost might be the difference between drawing an extra 7 cards to combo out, so Ive rejected it.
Serum Powder is interesting although I don't think it provides enough advantages to outweigh the slots it'd take up. Getting extra mulligans is great (especially for this deck) however, running 3-4 of these means there's 3-4 cards I need to remove from the deck, which will overall ruin the consistency and redundancy built around my combo. Even if I were to run these, every free mulligan I get not only potentially removes combo pieces from my deck, but if you think about it, mulling down to 7 really wasn't worth it in the first place cause my original hand would have been 6 cards + a Serum Powder . If these had some built in discard mechanic or didn't exile cards it would be viable, but it's not.

I've been toying with a deck very similar to this, and I find Izzet Charm to be extremely useful. It's another Faithless Looting for 1 additional mana, is a Spell Pierce if you need it, and can get rid of any pesky creatures that may disrupt your combo, like friggin' Deathrite Shaman . I think it's worth trying out in the place of Funeral Charm .
I am completely in love with this deck though, great work!

I kinda wanna play around with Maelstrom Archangel it seems really impractical and silly.

Just wondering how this deck pulls off a turn 1 win.
Can someone walk me through it with the cards needed?

Ok cool! It seems like a totally bad @$$ deck. I need to study it so I can playtest it to its potential though. But ok I drew 2 of the Griselbrand 's, but I didn't really know what to do with them. I did discard one and get it out tho. Ah but I see, I didn't draw any Goryo's Vengeance . I did get it out with the Footsteps of the Goryo tho, but he didn't have haste. But man I'd love to play PvP against it in person! :p
