Major Adjustments and new trial card selections —May 14, 2018

Many of the changes listed are still in the testing process and will likely change frequently. Dominaria has given me new toys that have shaken things up and I still am unsure the most optimal way forward. Please leave comments if you have any ideas for improvements. Thanks!

  1. Ashnod's Altar - This change is in light of new combos that require Krark-Clan Ironworks in place of the alter. With the loss of only one combo as a downside. In addition the ability to sac itself to prevent exile is a big upside.

  2. Massacre Wurmfoil - A card that was in from the start has fallen out of favor in place of more robust forms of removal.

  3. Mastermind's Acquisition - A choice card that added some very niche flexibility by adding a wish board. While it may see a return down the road it is quite slow and has been temporarily removed for further testing.

  4. Attrition - Another long standing card for this deck that has fallen. It's primary issue is that is requires many things for it to go right: 1 target must not be black, 2 you need a creature that is cheep enough to recast multiple times. While this may change as I am looking to rework the creature end of things, it currently is very mana intensive and limited.

  5. Buried Alive - Easily the biggest change is the removal of this a three mana entomb three creatures is very strong. However it must be considered that for this card to be of high value we must control Glissa and have ways to kill creatures. It may return but for now its taking a bench.

  6. Ratchet Bomb - After consideration and a bit of math I have concluded that at least in my meta that this list carries enough token hate to do just fine with the removal of this card. It opens up room for further improvements as well. The reason I'm removing bomb over Powder Keg is because Strionic Resonator can double up the triggered ability to speed up counters if need be and a rather fun interaction with Mycosynth Lattice who may make a guest appearance in a wish board neat you ;)

  1. Krark-Clan Ironworks - Mostly for reasons stated above Ironworks is slightly more flexible that altar at the loss of one combo interaction.

  2. Grafdigger's Cage - A very unexpected inclusion for those not used to the meta I have to deal with. Cage shuts down many graveyard and toolbox decks including but not limited to Meren of Clan Nel Toth (If they have enough XP counters they cannot return it to the hand instead as it's not a choice), Balthor the Defiled and Chainer, Dementia Master. All of these are frequent issues and having an answer is necessary. However I may experiment with having this in the wish board and running an additional 'any tutor' such as Diabolic Intent to have access more often. Sure that mana cost would be high but worth looking into.

  3. Vampiric Tutor - Getting things I need for the deck to run smoothly is very important and this is low any hits anything. Currently replacing Mastermind's Acquisition.

  4. Bloodtallow Candle - A replacement for Attrition, as over-costed as it is Candle has given me good success so far. That high mana issue goes down considerably when Cabal Coffers is online and for a very high mana cost gives a alternative way to kill Avacyn, Angel of Hope. Not sure if it will stay however.

  5. Coercive Portal - A card I greatly underestimated has now found a home here. Providing card draw most of the time and clearing the board when someone does a bit too much and the table would rather have them reset. The little bit where it's a reoccurred wipe with Glissa make it even better.

  6. Hour of Promise - Replaced ratchet with another way to get Cabal Coffers online albeit much less powerful than say Scapeshift. Still getting it online is necessary.

Alright I know this deck has died down a bit in terms of me editing it on this site. However I have not stopped, I've been doing most of my testing on xmage and have tuned this more. Change-log is being updated today and the deck now functions at a higher level.
