CREATURES:
Blood Artist: If you're running a deck that focuses on sacrificing creatures, spot removal, and board wipes, you NEED to have him as playset. I can't tell you how many times this guy has won me a game.
Gatekeeper of Malakir
: Pretty much a black Grizzly Bear that comes with a sacrifice spell. ALWAYS pay the kicker.
Geralf's Messenger: Pretty much needs no explanation. There's so many combos you can do with this guy. If you have a one Blood Artist or more in play, cast a Geralf's Messenger, it deals 2 damage to your opponent, then cast a Mutilate, wipe the board, the Blood Artist(s) trigger, Geralf's Messenger's Undying trigger goes off, and he comes back with a +1/+1 counter and hit your opponent with 2 more damage. Or you could just Devour Flesh and target him and deal 4 damage while gaining 2 life.
Phyrexian Obliterator: Once he gets out, your opponent pretty much has a 2-3 turn clock before they ragequit.
Vampire Nighthawk
: Lifelink and deathtouch are always good in a monoblack deck. Say goodbye to your Tarmogoyf!!
INSTANT:
Devour Flesh: As previously stated, I mainly use this on Geralf's Messenger but you could also use this to get rid of any hexproof creatures if you can get them alone.
Dismember
: Just an amazing card that gets rid of things like Tarmogoyf,
Thundermaw Hellkite
,
Falkenrath Aristocrat
, and any other big threat they may have.
Grasp of Darkness: A really underrated card that no one really plays. -4/-4 is just so good and take out a lot of stuff.
SORCERY:
Distress: Even though it comes in a turn later than a Thoughtseize, you don't have to pay 2 life and it pretty much does the same thing. Plus, it doesn't cost $50.
Mutilate: An amazing boardwipe that gets rid of EVERYTHING, including any stupid indestructible creatures.
