Ok. Here is the story: I wanted to put Tibalt in a deck, so I made this!
End of the story.
The long story is, I made a Goblin EDH deck with some card draw and lategame threats.
Enjoy!
To be honest, I did not want to make this deck competitive, and to be good in multiplayer or anything. I just wanted to make a mono-red aggro goblin deck, that I consider to be fun. So I put some cards in it, to match the silly goblin theme :)
But after serious consideration, I made some combos with the happy little goblins. This deck has many different 3 and 4 card combos.
The deck can offer:
- infinite tokens
- infinite mana
- infinite turns
- infinite damage
- infinite mill
So lets break down how the deck works
The commander:
Shattergang Brothers is mostly there just to get access to its colors, so we can combo multiple ways. But we can utilize the sacrifice to stall for time if we need. It's also a goblin, so it synergises with the deck.
Tutors:
We have access to some really great tutors in Boggart Harbinger, Goblin Matron and most importantli Goblin Recruiter (also worth mentioning Goblin Ringleader and Muxus, Goblin Grandee to refuel and potentially win the game by themselves). The deck also has some non-goblin tutors like Worldly Tutor, Primal Command and Time of Need. We use all of these tutors to do one of our different combos. For example if we plan to win with Murderous Redcap, Grumgully, the Generous and Purphoros, God of the Forge we can tutor up any of the pieces we need. We can use Time of Need or Primal Command for non-goblin cards. I also added a Goblin Engineer to search up our artifacts. Not the most optimal, but it gives us a shot with having one of our artifacts for the combos.
The win-cons:
We have multiple different cards that can win us the game, if we can assemble the combos needed.
There is Walking Ballista and Goblin Cannon to soak up the infinite mana and deal infinite damage, Altar of the Brood for infinite mill wia infinite ETB triggers, there's Krenko, Mob Boss and Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker for infinite tokens wich make infinite ETB triggers and also infinite attackers with the help of Rhythm of the Wild, Goblin Chieftain or Hammer of Purphoros for haste.
We can also just pump our team and win the old fashioned way with Reckless Bushwhacker or Goblin Bushwhacker, but they are mostly there to just put pressure on our opponents.
Another win con is Breath of Fury. With it you can attack with your tokens and sac them to get additional attack phases, to make more tokens to attack more.
Some of the combos require us to sacrifice creatures, so we have Sling-Gang Lieutenant whitch is also a win con by itself, Skirk Prospector, Ashnod's Altar and Phyrexian Altar for a lot of (if not infinite) mana, Goblin Sledder, for some pumping and Goblin Bombardment (also infinite damage), and if we already have infinite mana and infinite tokens, we can also use Siege-Gang Commander or Shattergang Brothers if we want everyone to hate us.
Utility:
We have some cards, that aren't directly helping us do one of the combos, but to just help us survive long enough, or dig through our deck to get to our combo in time, or just to take out some opponents just by attacking with a horde of gobbos.
These are cards like Goblin Diplomats, Blood Moon, Vandalblast, Mizzium Mortars, Blasphemous Act and Primal Command. We also have our card draw package in Burning Inquiry (and some extra chaos is always good), Faithless Looting, and Goblin Lore. You dont need to worry about discarding the combo pieces, because you can just do the next one if neccessary. Staff of Domination and Skullclamp is also great card draw, especially Skullclamp with all the 1/1 goblins, it basically becomes ", sacrifice a creature: draw two cards"
We also have Rhythm of the Wild and Cavern of Souls for counter protection.
To speed up the deck we have Warren Instigator and Goblin Lackey. The Goblin King is there for pumping, and mountainwalk also synergises with Blood Moon
There are mana producing cards like Dragonrage or Brightstone Ritual mostly to give us the initial push to combo. Dragonrage can also be used as a bushwack.
Speed:
The deck has not one, but two theoretical turn 2 wins, but it will only happen in magical christmas land, with the perfect 7 card hand.
Here is what you need:
2 lands, preferably Mountain, or any untapped land that can produce , you need Goblin Lackey, Goblin Recruiter, Conspicuous Snoop, Goblin Warchief and Skirk Prospector
You play land on first turn and you play Goblin Lackey and pass. On the second turn, you hit an opponent, and put Goblin Warchief into play (this makes goblins cost less, and also gives them haste). You play your land and then you play Goblin Recruiter, searching up Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker and either Sling-Gang Lieutenant or Siege-Gang Commander and put the Sling-Gang Lieutenant or Siege-Gang Commander on top of ypur library first, and then put Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker on the top of it. After this you use your last untapped land to play Skirk Prospector, and sac both the Goblin Recruiter and the Goblin Lackey producing . After that you play Conspicuous Snoop and use the activcated ability of Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker to make infinite tokens. Then you sac 5 of those tokens to play Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker from the top of your library. Then Your top card should be Sling-Gang Lieutenant or Siege-Gang Commander. You use their activated abilities to sac your infinite tokens for infinite damage. Simple as that.
OR
2 lands, preferably Mountain, and any untapped land that can produce or as well, Sol Ring, Altar of the Brood, Metallic Mimic, Skirk Prospector and Putrid Goblin
You play land on first turn and you play Sol Ring, and Metallic Mimic chosing goblin. On the second turn you play another land and use Sol Ring to play Altar of the Brood. Then you will have floating, You use that and to play Putrid Goblin. Then you play Skirk Prospector with your Mountain and sac away.
If none of your opponents have interaction on turn 1 and 2 you have won the game. Congratulations, and good luck finding new friends, because your group will probably hate you!
So about Tibalt, the Fiend-Blooded...honestly I really love the art of the card, and the chaos of its +1. But the -4 doesn't even look bad considering there is always a blue player with like 15 cards in hand, and the ultimate makes sure there are no creatures to block you angry goblin army. So I think it fits in nicely with the deck. Of course you could replace it with any card, or even get some actually powerful planeswalkers, but where is the fun in that? :D
PS.: I know the mana base is weak, I'm gonna be working on it, but I wanted it to be in a reatively tame price, and lands are VERY expensive. But you are free to make a great manabase, and tell me how the deck is working :)
