Introduction

Goblin's are not known for being very bright... When they're not loading their cousins into Goblin Cannons, they're little more than Dragon Fodder, but not Mizzix... No, she is a spellslinging, Izzet mage that proves you CAN use the words "Goblin" and "Wizard" in the same sentence... And will Roast anyone who says otherwise, until extra crispy.

How does this deck play?

This deck is my first take on Combo/Control in Commander ever since I got interested in the format about two and a half years ago. It works by using boardwipes and counterspells to stay alive while casting tons of cheap instant speed draw spells so that I never have to tap out on my turn. This fuels my graveyard for win conditions like rise from the tide and using Past in Flames to "Storm out", casting a huge Mind's Desire or bouncing all of my opponents permanents with Temporal Fissure, something that will give me ample time to combo out or beat my opponent down with zombies and/or elementals... But you might be asking, What combo(s) do you run?"... Well...

Combo

My combo is Reiterate with buyback + Turnabout or a Reality Spasm for 7 or more to create infinite mana. Then I deck my opponents with one of my X draw spells like Blue Sun's Zenith or burn them out with Comet Storm... I know what you're thinking... "That's 10-15 mana! How can that be your combo?!" Well... Because,

Mizzix's Ability is Powerful!

I was so hyped when she was spoiled. Anytime you can cheat mana costs, you should take notice and this is no different. Each time you cast a spell that has a higher CMC than the number of Experience Counters you have, you get another one. This works incredibly well with X spells, because say you have 4 Counters and have Mizzix out... You can cast that X spell where X is 4 by only paying the colored mana and these spells will always put another counter on. That's because when you cast something like Blue Sun's Zenith for 4 on the stack it's CMC will be 7, netting a counter, and because those Counters are on you Mizzix will always be powerful even if you need to recast her.

But if you're careful you won't have to recast her because you can...

Say "No" to Everything

I run a pretty large counterspell package to protect Mizzix and answer Noncreature spells I can't just catch with my sweepers. Also, when the time comes to win the game it can protect my win conditions. The X spells are here because in the late game they're essentially one mana Counters once Mizzix makes the spell cost an extra 6 or 7 and Spell Burst having a buyback that Mizzix makes cheaper can even lead to a pretty hard lock. I also run some cheap Counters like Swan Song, Negate, and good ol' Counterspell, plus Misdirection (which is free and can steal removal spells and use them against their owners)... All of these spells being great even when Mizzix isn't in play.
