Creature (1)

Enchantment (1)

This was a really fun deck to build, particularly resolving the issue of how to actually get Godsire in play. I’ve already built a number of Creature Cheat decks, so I didn’t want to use the same stale formulas again. That’s when I happened upon Behemoth's Herald , and knew that this is the direction I wanted to focus on. Then, since Godsire paired so nicely with Intruder Alarm , the goal materialized and construction began.

Alright, so while it may seem like a 4 color deck we actually run mostly Selesnya colors with just a splash of blue to cast one of our key cards. There are technically a handful of cards featuring in their costs, but these will be circumvented and therefore it’s unnecessary to include any red sources in the deck.

Forest s produce the bulk of the we’ll require, and are a necessity to combat potential Blood Moon effects.

Flooded Strand is the perfect catch-all card to include. Use it to filter out the odd Plains for , or if we’re ready to combo off it can also grab a blue mana source. If for some inexplicable reason green mana is of the essence, remember- Flooded Strand can grab either shockland, both of which are half green in this deck.

Breeding Pool nets us much needed and can tap for when we’re ready for it.

Temple Garden is no doubt where the Behemoth's Herald is offering up that bowl of incense to his Godsire . This pagan temple taps for or .

•A lone Plains and an Island fill out our land resources, again just to circumvent any potential mana color affectations the opponent may throw at us.

So a cursory glance at the card list ought to have told you that we intend to ramp steeply as early as we can.

Utopia Sprawl can target any of our forested lands, including the basic Forest but also Breeding Pool and Temple Garden . This sprawling source of extra mana helps smooth out logistical issues of our somewhat off color cards.

Arbor Elf makes an appearance for his mystical connection to the Forest , allowing us to use each one to generate multiple mana per turn—better yet if it should happen to be enchanted by a Utopia Sprawl . Speaking of a mystical connection...

Elvish Mystic offers his services and grants us an additional green mana. Check the bottom corner of your Elvish Mystic cereal box and you’ll note it’s ‘fortified with !’

Llanowar Elves has been crammed into green decks since Alpha, and they’re here to stay. Like an elvish Oprah Winfrey, “You get a ! And you get a ! And you get a !”

•Lastly, we have Lightning Greaves . Aim to have this in play Turn 2, since it will be most beneficial shuffles around between the mana dorks while they do their thing. Inevitably these speedy greaves will end up on Godsire , allowing it to dominate immediately without wait.

Let’s go over the setup and installation of our Intruder Alarm , since it will play a major role in our plans later on.

•Think of Idyllic Tutor as the 1-800 number to Brinks Home Security. Dial it and before you know it you’ll have that security system on hand.

Intruder Alarm , once in play, has an interesting effect on the table. Anytime a creature enters play (by any means, not limited to being “cast” only—phrasing is important), all other creatures untap. The obvious application of this is paired alongside Godsire , but don’t overlook other potential benefits. Better to use generated from mana dorks to get a creature afield instead of spending land-generated mana, knowing the creature entering play will untap your elves immediately after.

I briefly toyed with the idea of including Zur the Enchanter as another means of retrieving and playing Intruder Alarm , but his wonky casting cost was too much of a hassle. I’d have to retool the mana base to ensure reliable access to , and it just wasn’t worth it. I’ve left it in the Maybeboard here just in case a future set unlocks new doors in some way.

Oh where, oh where can he be? Let’s find him.

Behemoth's Herald proclaims the entrance of the Godsire . Use his ability to locate it and put it directly into play. Remember, feel free to sacrifice the Herald himself to cover the green creature part of his ability’s cost.

Chord of Calling just can’t be beat here. For 3 green mana plus an additional 8 (of any color), we can tutor up Godsire at instant speed and plop him down untapped. A few turns in and we ought to have more than enough extracurricular mana sources to cover the cost.

Weird Harvest compliments Behemoth's Herald nicely. Use it to grab a few Kithkins to cover the red/white creatures, and with the Herald himself filling the green creature role you’ve got your Godsire right there.

The culmination of our efforts, it’s time to create an image of this wild beast and give it life.

Godsire + Intruder Alarm is a self sustaining combo limited only by table space. Tap the Beast to create an 8/8 image of itself, then untap it due to the fact that a creature entered play. Repeat this process to your heart’s delight and amass a veritable army of 8/8 Beasts to wage war with.

•Ramp early by using mana dorks in conjunction with Utopia Sprawl s and Lightning Greaves

•Find and play Intruder Alarm using Idyllic Tutor if necessary

•Find Behemoth's Herald and Figure of Destiny (s) using Weird Harvest

•Find and play Godsire using Chord of Calling or Behemoth's Herald ’s ability

•Abuse the Godsire + Intruder Alarm combo to make infinite 8/8 Beast creature tokens

This is a work in progress, but for now here’s the state of things:

•2 more copies of Godsire reside in the sideboard for two reasons. At first, I wanted to keep them safely here as backup for Surgical Extraction type situations, intending to grab them with Living Wish . But that fell apart when I checked and the wish is not Modern legal (still learning the cardpool). After some playtesting I found that 2 copies in the Mainboard is actually just right; we won’t be hardcasting it and each alternative method to play it will tutor directly for it anyway. Thus, 2 copies remain here in the sideboard.

Apostle's Blessing in case protecting Godsire or his precursors becomes an issue.

Fauna Shaman was a holdover from an earlier draft; a different method to find and play Godsire .

Children of Korlis against Burn or Aggro decks to help mitigate life loss while we set up to finish.

Mana Tithe , that devious and reliable white counterspell definitely makes the cut.

”And the smoke of their torment ascends forever and ever, and day and night they have no rest, those who worship the wild beast and its image...”
