Destroy the World!

The Dream

So I wanted to figure out a way to destroy all lands/permanents and discard all hands but benefit from it. I love stax, but stax is by definition slow. It provides a lot of opportunities for people to recover. This is sortof a new archetype, what I call Nukes. The effects hit all at once, and hit harder than any other stax deck. Nukes can function without blue, but blue enables much faster and more brutal combos.

The Keys

The key cards are Alara, Realm Razer, Mindslicer, and Faith's Reward. For anyone who doesn't understand Realm Razer, if you sacrifice it before the ETB goes off, the LTB triggers first and all lands will be permanently exiled.

The Strategy

We don't want to break parity, we want to grind it into dust and use it as fertilizer. You want some combination(or all three) of the following cards to die at the same time: Alara, Realm Razer, and/or Mindslicer. I've yet to have someone not scoop who has had two of these triggered at once. Faith's Reward is really the all star; recur your permanents and the game is in your hands. The only real catch here is to make sure you cast your Faith's Reward before you sacrifice Mindslicer, else have Razaketh in play and sac Mindslicer to it, else cast Demonic Tutor and sac Mindlsicer with the tutor on the stack.

The Combos

Protean is the most broken card in the deck, obviously. You don't need other permanents. Technically the deck could win off of several different combos if I included a Blood Artist, but I find the Nukes strategy more entertaining. After the combo goes off, you can just swing your opponents to death if they choose not to scoop. The fastest possible way for your opponent to recover requires them to draw a black land, Dark Ritual, and Toxic Deluge over the next 3 turns. Here's the Protean combo that makes everyone scoop:

Flash Protean > Karmic Guide/Viscera Seer > Phantasmal Image/Mindslicer > Body Double/Sylvan Safekeeper > Saffi/Volrath's > Sun Titan > Azusa/Ramunap > Realm Razer.

Sac all your lands, then exile all lands, then discard all hands. You don't need anything else in play to start; parity is destroyed, you have infinite scry, lands are gone, hands are gone, you play 3 lands from your graveyard per turn. You can alter this combo a bit to include False Prophet depending on the board state and your hand, but you will either have to skip Mindslicer or skip your infinite scry triggers. The only card that is really situational in this deck is False Prophet. If you can't sac everything and cast Faith's Reward, False Prophet will remove your own combo pieces. It's situational but too symmetric not to run.

There are several back up locks with Strip Mine and several combos that net you advantage without directly winning. I have added Mikeaus and Walking Ballista to close games with a Protean Hulk trigger, but I only need use this strategy if my opponent's board is filled with artifacts and/or enchantments. There are only 2 cards in mtg that can shut this deck off: Blood Moon and Magus of the Moon. If we happen to have Walking Ballista or Lightning Bolt we can deal with Magus. For Blood Moon, we can only hope to have our Annul.

The Exclusions

Academy Rector - The death trigger is amazing, but the targets are few and inconsequential.

Counterspells - Not that much room in the deck, and most things aren't that much of a threat to us anyways.

Removal - See Counterspells.

Vampiric Tutor - I'm poor.

Survival of the Fittest - See Vampiric Tutor.

Mana Crypt - See Survival of the Fittest.

The Verdict

And that's Nukes. They hit hard, they hit fast, and they end games. Tell me what you think, I want to know what the players see when they look at a deck like this.
